@siudawgs

Im just saying the kid is a freshman and is playing his arse off every night doing the little things that dont show up in the box score.

Im not making excuses for his point production... but he contributes to this team in so many more ways

Thank you for posting the twitter feed.  I wasn't sure how to do it.  I've watched that video like 10 times now and each time I get the chills.  Love it !

Whoops didn’t mean to post it here though!

Just 3 points off the bench tonight. Gotta do better than that.

Looking back at the box score, just two shots from the bench!  Harwin's made 3, and TB's missed 3.

If you're gonna reply to me in the forums, please quote what I wrote that you're replying to so I have a clue...thanks! 😀

Agreed that Trent plays very hard and has an above-average basketball IQ. It's also evident he must give great effort in practice to retain the coaches' trust despite his offensive struggles. I'm not here to rag on Trent at all ... I'd love to see him make progress as his career moves along. Just didn't think it was reasonable from a basketball standpoint to compare what Mullins brought to the table to what Brown has (at either end of the floor).

The Dawgs put on a defensive clinic in the second half. Hopefully enough Saluki fans show up in STL that it will seem like home to them.

No question Brown plays hard. I hope he turns into the shooter he was in HS. He has good shooting form - has only shot 18 FTs but made 16 of them - 89%. TB gets the occasional steal, and he's working on improving his D (which was very good against AJ Green), but we need offense off the bench and
he has not provided it. I don't think his passing is anything special, and I also think he needs to work on those ball handling skills. I know there are a couple of posters on here who are gaga over him, but I really question the minutes he's playing - just a non-factor on offense most of the time - barely needs to be guarded at this point in his career. Playing almost 21 minutes/game, he has the lowest FG % on the team at 24.4!

Compare that to Benson - 51.6,

Domask - 50,

Jones - 42.5,

Davis - 41.5,

McGill - 39.5,

Francois - 35.3,

Suggs - 32.

No question in my mind that Karrington Davis should be getting some of those minutes.  KD has shown in spurts that he can score and rebound - some real athleticism. He can also drive it and score around the basket. Needs to get more minutes so he can get in the flow. Also think Francois has talent on the offensive side, but I agree he needs to work on that D.

The point of the game is to win!

My issue with TB was specific to yesterday during a particular stretch of play where I thought they kept him in too long. In general, I think he's a solid defender and usually really good with entry passes to our bigs (I believe someone else mentioned this in this thread).

Yesterday he was over-matched on D physically and gave up quite a few easy buckets. He missed his only shot a wide open three (this I can live with), but also turned the ball over twice in a row during a critical stretch, once trying to drive and getting stripped (this happens almost every time he drives), and the very next trip down the floor with a bad entry pass (typically an area where he excels).

Another year in the weight room will go a long way with him and hopefully  he can build up some more confidence in his shot. Looking forward to seeing him next year, because once McGill leaves, we will be short handed at the 2.

This is a really good post. About the only thing I disagree with is being shorthanded in the backcourt last year, especially if Cook returns. You'd have Cook, Harvey, Jones, Brown, Francois, Davis and the two new freshmen (Banks and Butler), not factoring in anyone else who still could come or go this spring. Considering Domask as more of a 4 than a guard, albeit a versatile one, in this overview.

Now frontcourt depth at this point ... different story.

He's made a few nice entry passes this year - also a few bad ones, like yesterday. When he drives it, I cringe. Just not quick enough or a good enough ball handler to be doing that. His D has been good unless he's guarding a quick player. Then he's lost. (like a lot of players are)

When he starts hitting a few threes, I'll agree he deserves his 20 minutes a game. Most games he Has been an offensive liability. Davis has more upside, more size, and more athleticism from what I've seen and he CAN drive it and score. Not sure why he's not playing more - maybe doesn't practice well or work hard enough!

Davis has often had trouble finishing around the basket and keeping his balance on his drives. Like the rest of the bench guys, he has a lot to prove, but I’d also be good with him getting some additional minutes.

I think we have plenty of point guards (Jones, Cook, Banks) next year...I'm more worried about the off ball guard. Maybe they play Harvey at the 2 but I see him as more of a 3. Davis is a 3 or a 4 splitting time with Domask/Harvey. I don't think Cook shoots the 3 at a high enough clip to play him at the 2, plus you become awfully short if you have Jones & Cook on the floor at the same time. Francois seems like more of a 3 to me b/c I don't think he can guard most people at the 2.

So that leaves Brown as the next logical guy at the 2 if he can start knocking down the three like most of us think he can and continue to improve on D I think he can be successful there.

As an aside...I whole heatedly agree we are razor thin in the frontcourt next year and I hope both open scholarships go toward a couple bigs.

I hear ya. That said, if Cook is back, I’d expect both he and Jones (and possibly Banks) on the floor together a lot. None of them might be a natural 2, but they can ball at both ends.

I believe Jones has earned his spurs and will start alongside Cook. He just won’t be a typical 2 but adds a lot to the lineup. Banks and Brown to back up those two.
