We should have hired Todd over PT years ago. We'd have been dancing for a couple years by now.
Would be interesting to know who the candidates were when they hired PT. I'm pretty sure it's been well known that Dan Muller was one of the candidates. I think they made a run at Weber when Illinois fired him but Kansas State opened.
Mullins was always the guy after PT was fired but I've heard Luke Yaklich and Dane Fife as 2 other candidates for that search, wonder if there were others.
I believe the 4 finalists were Hinson, Muller, Greg Gard and Rodney Watson, but Gard may have removed himself from consideration before the final decision was made.

That's right, I remember Gard being involved.

the search to replace lowery waited on an answer from weber. when it was apparent that illinois was going to fire bruce, we sent a contingent to the big 10 tourney in indy to show weber our interest. bruce never really opened the door to return. at that point, the four finalists were hinson, mueller, giacoletti and watson. gard was never a serious candidate, probably by his choice, as we weren't offering much, and he had a good gig in waiting. the valley lobbied for hinson. i believe mueller was the second choice.
the search to replace hinson only focused on bryan. i'm sure there were other names on an index card somewhere, but that was going nowhere unless bryan turned the job down.
you win some, you lose some.

Gard would have been an outstanding hire if they could have pulled that off. In general, though, that was an awful search with some weak finalists. If they were going to go with a feel-good, folksy hire, Watson would have been a better choice. It's been great to have him back involved with the program this season.
Glad it all turned out much, much better this time.
Gard was my #1 choice
