Watson: D'Amico really had a nice 1st half for a fr.
There's an obvious talent gap, but still ... this team is deeeeeep! Its a good feeling to rest assured that one or two guys can have an off night, and there's another two or three behind them ready to pick them up.

NOt a good start to the second half

Lot of turnovers and sloppy play as expected.
Well, no freshmen making a big impact. Kinda hoping Wonders would be wonderful but not yet.
Small flashes from Troy though with 5 rebounds.

Not a great performance but in the end, doesn't matter. Secret scrimmage against IPFW coming up and then the season opener.
Less than inspiring. Hopefully lot of lessons learned.
Jones and Domask are ballers. I also feel good about Filewich getting his 8-10 points a night and maybe a couple buckets here and there from Muila. Offensively, I’m most curious about who emerges from the logjam at the 2/3 spots to provide some additional perimeter scoring punch beyond Jones. Plenty of candidates there, but a couple of those guys need to produce if Southern is going to be a more dangerous offensive team than they’ve been in recent years.
Let's not forget that SIU was without 2 key players, very possibly starters, in this game.
I was at the game. D'Amico looked like he belonged out there. Muila looked like he hasn't played in a while which he hasn't. Ebube has a senior body which can't be taught. He has potential to be a really good one but will probably be brought on slowly. Filewich looked bigger but maybe that's because I only saw him on tv last year. I like his intensity. Obviously Domask and Jones are the leaders and who progresses to be the leading players after them may not be known for awhile.
Reis and Watson were raving about Ebube and the weight he’s lost. They seemed to think the staff was really high on him going forward. Big men tend to take some time to development but he might be a good one.
This exhibition is a little earlier than normal (SIU was the first MVC team to play a true exhibition) so that could be the cause for some of the struggles combined with the fact that Coupet and Brown were out.
Postgame press conference with Domask, Jones, and Mullins:
if the 3’s had been falling And if SIU had played two halves of D we would all be giddy. Too many unforced TOs, especially on JD, which is understandable considering the length of time since he last played. Add Trent and Ben in the mix and we have a very deep team. I really like Bryan’s comment “when we rebound and take care of the ball we will be a hard team to beat”. He obviously is not worried about the offense. Rodney Watson is a huge plus to the broadcast team, his insights are extremely informative and interesting. Go Dawgs.

I was there last night. After seeing Banks and Verplanken get the 2/3 starting spots last night, that makes me even more confident that Brown and Coupet are in the opening day starting lineup when healthy. The second half was ugly and shots weren't falling. With that said, I am most confident in these two things:
1. Domask and Jones are absolutely still the studs of this team (no surprise).
2. This has to be the ugliest Saluki uniforms and warm up shirts that I've ever seen. What the heck??!
