It's impossible to not acknowledge that Webers best years have always came with Chris Lowery on staff.  If Illinois had kept him and they had added Chris back to the staff after Mario forced him out here, one would certainly believe they would have had a few Big 10 titles and better success in the postseason  during recent years.

So that national championship game year... not one of Weber's better career performances champ?

Weber did that with Bill Self's recruits. Once that talent left, they were never that good, even though he had a number of good recruits. No doubt Weber is way better than Coach BBQ and he has done well at KState - Elite 8 last year beating Kentucky in Sweet 16 before getting hammered by Loyola.

Lowry could coach defense - problem is he chased players away (Like Hinson).

So you are saying Wichita State is back to its status of irrelevance in Kansas basketball..

Saw that. Nice win. Kstate now in first with a better record than Kansas. They did lose to Tulsa though - a team we beat by 10 points.

So I feel there are two separate arguments here that are merging into one:

I want to reiterate, Weber is a damn good coach, but the Illinois situation just wasnt really working for him or Illinois.

However going to the Lowery thing, it is laughable to suggest Lowery is the key the Weber doing anything in his career.  Lowery's first year as Weber's assistant was the Sweet 16 run, so unless you think Lowery somehow put together that team despite just having started to work for SIU it is pretty clear Weber had the situation well in hand.  If you want to somehow argue Lowery's main contribution is bench coaching rather than recruiting and his presence is partially why SIU got to the Sweet 16 I would once again point out Weber stumbled his way to a national title game without Chris Lowery.

I really think WSU made a terrible mistake leaving.  Creighton made the right call though

KState at Texas. Close game. Brad Korn emphatic in the huddle. Chris Lowry is as wide as he is tall.

Actor Matthew McConaughey at the game wearing an orange suit. Guess he likes oranges. Looks like he hasn't washed his hair or used deodorant in a while. I'm sure he drove to the game in a Lincoln.

Much more life in the arena in the OVC tournament.  Jacksonville State and Murray in a close one on ESPNU.

Craving a McBride Special!

Ford Center has largest crowd to ever watch a BBall game. Murray's Ja Morant makes a great spinning shot with less than 10 secs left to win it over Jack. St. Great player.

Championship tomorrow night against Belmont! Should be a great one.

Crowd full of NBA scouts, including a guy named Magic Johnson.

For the people deprived of good basketball in Southern Illinois, I'd consider making the hour trip to Evansville to watch Belmont/Murray State
