since several other boards are fishing us for information I want to expose a few things
1. Barry Hinson was leaving win or lose . The team could have made the NCAA and won a couple games he was leaving. He is going in to politics. While the presser was heart wrenching it was about Barry. If it was not about him he would have done it Monday at SIU not at arch madness with more views.
2. We have no inside information at all. The early logo leak last week locked up Lingle hall tighter than tight
3. Everything we hear is Mullins. Now I am not so sure that this info is not coming from this website.
4. Loyola fans! I read your board. Fuck you. Your or run is great. I know you have been reading us. When Bryan leaves you will realize how much of a mistake the Moser extension was.
5. Illinois State fans: you are more than welcome to Peyton. Have at him
we want to wish Barry nothing but success in his future endeavors . His players graduated and stayed off the police blotter. Yes the Murray St and Cheeetos rant were ridiculous and unforgivable but they are in the past.
Lastly Jerry Kill! Please please please use you head and hire Bryan Mullins. I know you do not like me but I am more than willing to communicate with you as I have stated in email to you.
We want to work with SIU not against you. Please consider this olive branch. Leedowns67@gmail.com. Let’s talk
What is Killer afraid of?
Can't control the message?
Seems like it is better to have a friend than an adversary. I'm sure you would work with him. Not your fault he has a leaky ship.
You guys do a great job aggregating info for all Saluki sports. No other media outlet comes close.
I'd like to hear why Kill chooses to shun an entire group of SIU fans simply because we have opinions.
How about it Killer?
Craving a McBride Special!
While I would like to see Mullins as head coach, I don't think Kill should be obligated to hire him unless he's sure he's the right fit. This is a huge hire for the University as a whole and I would hope they would at least do their due diligence.

Just remember we are putting our trust in a man that supported Hinson last spring and took the job of the person who was trying to do the right thing. I really don't care if he likes me or not.

Similar topic, what was the result of the Lowery lawsuit?

I've said this before. Do a search. I have nothing against Bryan Mullins, but young, inexperienced alums are not necessarily the right hire. And contrary to popular belief, Nick Hill had more coaching experience than Mullins. He was a head coach at DuQuoin and an offensive coordinator at SIU. I'm not saying Nick has failed (yet) - I hope the next two years turn it around, but he was truly an inexperienced college coach ... like Mullins.

Not true. Bryan has been coaching at a higher level longer than Nick did.

Not that it matters but Nick Hill wasn’t the head coach at DuQuoin. Al Martin was the head coach for like 25 years until Nick’s younger brother AJ took over a few years ago. Nick coached at some high school in Florida I believe?

I am fairly certain he coached at Carbondale too.

As has been said previously, just because Nick Hill hasn’t worked out doesn’t mean Bryan Mullins won’t work out. Mullins has a track record of developing and recruiting Final Four talent in the same league as SIU. I generally agree that a coaching search isn’t a bad idea though although that’s how you end up with someone like Barry Hinson again.
Not to nitpick here, but Nick Hill was never HC at DuQuoin. His brother and former Saluki, A.J., is. Nick was, however, the playcaller for their 2008 state runner-up team. I think he was in between life stages and was looking for something to do. Then he will was HC at Carbondale for a year when Lennon hired him as QB coach. Promotion to co-offensive coordinator and now the HC.
Nitpicking. He HAS been a head coach. Mullins never has. Also, I think there's a lot more to being a football HC than basketball - it's a more complex job IMO.
Hill was a fairly inexperienced hire and so would Mullins be. I imagine Nick has learned a lot the last couple of years and still has a lot to learn. Same for Bryan.
The only thing I'm certain of is you can never be certain about anything. Mullins might turn out to be great - he might not. I'm all for a coaching search. Experience, connections, and attitude should be considered. There's a lot to be said for a young, hungry coach. There's a lot to be said for "been there, done that" also. It's Kill's job to sift the info and make the hire. We'll know in a few years whether it's a good one.
What's interesting is I heard a lot of arguments for head coaching experience when Hinson was hired. We all know how much that mattered 7 years later.
Whether SIU hires Mullins now or not. I'm convinced he will be a head coach someday. I just hope it's not at another valley school, as he will be successful.
