Bad, bad blow for the Salukis! Get well soon JD and we'll look forward to watching you next season. God bless.
I mostly worry about the loss of Muila's strength and athleticism on defense. Not sure there are good answers on the roster against the better bigs Southern will face, especially athletic bigs like Childs.
I'd expect Southern will go small a fair amount, which probably will work OK offensively, but I just don't know how D'Avanzo and Filewich will hold up defensively against quality bigs, and I'd hate to see Domask have to do too much banging down low defensively, so that he can preserve his legs for offense. It'd be helpful if Dembele is able to come back and contribute at some point.
Is picking up a transfer for the Spring semester out of the question?
A 5th year graduate transfer may be out of eligibility to play next fall. There are several graduate transfer bigs that did not find a school to pick them up this fall.

I'm sure if there's a guy out there that's a fit, and there's a way to get him in without having to sit, Mullins will pull the trigger. But I don't think he'll get someone just to get someone.

My main concern is having a big on the practice team to push Filewich during practice.
I am confident in Bryans ability to coach our team using Filewich and D'Avanzo as the only true bigs. I believe it would be a very good thing if they had a third big in practice so the two of them would not have to bang on each other everyday in practice.
From recent posted video I see that Will Keller has been in the post against Filewich. I'm just not sure how much a 6'7" Forward will push the 6'9" Filewich in day to day practice to be better against equal or bigger opponents.
Maybe Stevan, could be a manager and reprise his role from last season for practice purposes. SIU People Finder shows he is a Senior this year. Just a thought!
