What a loss he was for Salukis.

I agree. He certainly was a huge loss. But you can't blame him for wanting out.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
Hope he drops that same stat line against us in Vegas...

Nice to see such a good SIU fan.
I have seen people say that Hinson isn't really to blame for Caroline's departure, since JC apparently had higher ambitions than playing for SIU and was only here to get PT and raise his profile so that he could move on to better things.
I'm sure there is some truth to that. But I can't help but think that he might not have left if:
(1) he hadn't been played way out of position (BH used him as, basically, a 5, which was ridiculous. I don't think I've ever seen a player with so many blocked shots--against him!); and
(2) he thought BH was a good coach.
He wound up at Nevada, which is not really that much of step up from the MVC. I suspect he's still there because he is playing for a coach he respects and who knows how to use him.
So yeah, he was definitely a big loss, and it's not all on JC for being a "prima donna" or "team cancer."

I agree with Austin's points above.
If SIU was still a respectable Mid-Major program competing for NCAA births when JC was here, then he would have stayed. Let's not forget about the recruits SIU got under CLO when SIU was relevant, including a Mr Basketball of Illinois!
