He's certainly a restless fella. I feel pretty good about the coaches that are now in place (although the rest of the season will be telling for Nick Hill), but I do think Kill's departure is potentially a big loss from a fundraising standpoint, which is no small issue. And he also was a big name in the region, from a PR standpoint.

Here's hoping Liz Jarnigan is up to the job ... rather interesting that they appointed her AD without doing a search.

Kill wants to coach football, he is a football coach.

Why he couldn't just over run the SIU program and be happy I am not sure.

My guess University politics showed up.

Hey Woofie, read the press release from VTech.  https://hokiesports.com/news/2019/9/16/jerry-kill-joins-tech-football-staff-as-special-assistant-to-the-head-coach.aspx   It's not all going to be coaching.  If any coaching.  Breaking down film and "a myriad of duties" from dealing with facilities, personnel, etc.  That's what was curious to me.  He could create the same position here.  Again, I guess SIU is just too small a program for him.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

Hey, anybody know Liz Jarnigan?  How about a scouting report on her.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

Jerry did not like us.     I did not really like him.  Of course we had this two days before it was announced and that is what drove him crazy

Hey barkeep, putting your poopy pants aside, now that the Killers gone please share some of the behind the scene matters that we don't know about.

He had that position at SIU, he got promoted to AD. (granted he was special assistant to Chancellor vs Head football coach, but same idea)

my guess SIU University Politics got to him!  Too much BS, and too much pressure on him now, he wants to be in a position without pressure to perform.-

reads that way here- https://hokiesports.com/news/2019/9/16/jerry-kill-joins-tech-football-staff-as-special-assistant-to-the-head-coach.aspx

I'm betting he got a big raise with VT.

I'm VERY disturbed that we didn't do a search for an AD. That was really stupid in my opinion.

Jarnigan may turn out to be good, but reading about her experience, I see nothing about football or basketball - mostly small colleges, with stints at Tulsa and San Jose St (who's bad in everything).

Sure doesn't appear to have the connections of Jerry Kill.

Was there anything else other than the lawsuit Jerry had against SIU?  Did you have some less than positive interactions due to Saluki-Insider?  Should we take this under the cone-of-silence in the exclusive Insiders Club?

I'm sure he likes the coaching waaaayyyy better than administration.  I'm sure he got a big fat raise too.

He did not like me because I actually called him out on the whole stepping in to save Barry situation.  That and we get everything before it is announced.  My last parting shot at Kill is I got his resignation 2 days before lol

It is my understanding that Jarnigan pretty much ran the athletic department while Kill was there and he was fundraising and hiring coaches.  He obviously was successful fundraising but as others have said, Bell also had success if he was able to do his job. I’ve heard Liz is a great person and I’m confident in her ability to take over athletics.

Realistically in the case of Saluki Athletics, aside from the fundraising considerations, the most impactful role for the AD likely will be trying to retain Mullins, assuming he has the success we're all looking for over the next 3-4 years. If he were to land a really attractive Power 5 offer, odds are he'd go, regardless, but you want to be able to keep him if he gets an offer at a slightly higher level or from a "bad" power conference program. I'd think an AD like Kill would have been very aggressive with fundraising to try to make a competitive offer in that type of scenario, which is what concerns me most about Kill departing.

Hopefully Mullins achieves enough in the coming years to bring this scenario into play.

Kill came in stabbed Bell in the back. He stuck us with BBQ another year. Made the Mullins hire when he was the only option. Claimed how much he loved Southern Illinois and then bolted 6 months later.   Yea great guy. Fuck Jerry Kill
