My Grandson attended the SIU Basketball Camp this week. He had attended the previous 2 years, so I was interested in the difference in how BH had run the camp compared to Bryan's camp.
BH had divided the boys up in 2 age groups, for example Grades K-4 and Grades 5-8. He had a morning 3 hour session for one group and and an afternoon 3 hour session for the other group.
Bryan did a lot of things different. He had all of the age groups for 6 hours, 9 AM-3 PM, so he doubled the time he spent with the attendees. He more than doubled the price. He had half the number of attendees. (That was blamed on the Coaches being busy recruiting and very little advertising. Very understandable) He served lunch. The whole SIU basketball team worked at the camp. They worked on skills in the morning. He had shooting contests. He divided the boys up in 5 man teams and they played several games each day. He even had tournaments on the last day. He gave out awards on Thursday, which were very nice medals. Every attendee took home one of the practice balls they used during the camp, which they loved.
I watched some of the basketball games on Monday and again on Thursday. I was shocked at how much they had improved. I consider the basketball camp a resounding success. My Grandson loved it.
The SIU basketball team came across as very nice, polite, likeable, young men. My outlook on the team after meeting a few of them, went way up and I expect this team to become fan favorites and end up in the top half of MVC this year.
Very nice. Thank you for sharing. Everything about Bryan is a breath of fresh air
Great report! I am not all surprised to hear that Bryan has taken a hands-on approach. Good to hear that the players are all stand up guys, as Bryan said on day one, “first you build the culture”. Great days are in the future (finally)!

Am I missing something here....
It seems to me if we get kids playing hard, working on fundamentals in practice, having in bounds plays, making good in game coaching decisions including changing the plan (per the Mike Tyson quote concerning everyone starting out with a plan until hit in the nose) when necessary, then we ought to be mid pack that first year. Unless someone else is coming back loaded a solid team with our talent should be 3rd even.

Could be this years drake Evansville,Mo State and ILSU are all pretty loaded. Loyola will be there also but I see a fall off there possible

Bradley, Drake and UNI will all be picked ahead of Illinois State and Evansville.
Don’t sleep on Evansville

Their talent is on the upswing. Similar to SIU, though, they’ll be too reliant on newcomers to command much preseason respect.
If the league stays relatively healthy, it could be more challenging to avoid Thursday next season than it has been in several years.
That all sounds like good news. The stronger the conference is more bids is on the menu.
