I know things will hash themselves out, but I really don't like going small for the starting line-up. We'll need a big in there for OSU.
Agreed, especially considering D'Amico's seemingly best attributes are ball skills and vision from the 3-4 position, not a banger down low. I realize a lot of teams are doing "positionless" lineups, but when you're playing against a 7'1" center, surrounded by 6'6" and 6'9" on the wings, you might need some size/length.
Was at game last night and what a great time!
My humble observations:
Dawgs are hungry, this team is deep and only going to get better. Initially surprised at starters, but that lasted about two minutes, with the scoring outburst. Probably see different starters almost every game. Turnovers were a sore point, but you get that maybe with so many players in rotation. Ebube and Rupert are beasts. Upside there is huge. Cade is for sure a redshirt barring injuries and especially if/when JD returns. Love that MD distributes so well as do the other guards. Someone above said FW should not hesitate and just shoot. Totally agree, but it was his first game and think he had the yips for a bit. Watched him in pregame warmups and don't think he missed a shot. Guard play was excellent, and Jones was unreal. Was hoping the Dawgs would drop a C-note but definitely pleased with the scoring output. Good crowd for a Monday night but was expecting just a few more for opener. Season should be memorable.
March on triumphantly!
Thank you OBD and Mr. Woogers for the helpful tips. I was able to watch via my Firestick. Living almost two states away, I am not sure how many times I will utilize my season tickets.
What a tremendous and positive atmosphere last night. SIU Students are the best! I am super proud to be an alumni. Excited for Thursday night. I believe we will give OSU a game, and will have a opportunity at the end of regulation to secure the victory.
In BM we trust!
GO DAWGS GO!!!
What did you all think of those Carbondale tourism advertisements? I really liked them. The closing voice said, "I love those guys .... I love that place." It really made me think back to when I was a grad student, all the many games at the arena, the snowy night at Butler, all the football tailgating at McAndrews ... I miss Southern Illinois and don't get to return often enough.
I didn't get to see the entire game, but looking at the box score, I wonder if we've had such a balanced attack in the Mullins era.
Starters:
D'Amico: 6 pts in 19 min
Domask: 11 pts in 28 min
Brown: 6 pts in 24 min
Johnson: 6 pts in 19 min
Jones: 14 pts in 23 min
Bench:
Rupert: 9 pts in 14 min
Ebube: 9 pts in 8 min
Ferguson: 3 pts in 13 min
Wonders: 6 pts in 10 min
Banks: 14 pts in 20 min
Newton: 10 pts in 21 min
I know it's just the first game against a weak opponent, but this is pretty encouraging.

Looks to me like one of the deepest Saluki squads in memory. Lots of “good problems” for Mullins to navigate.
Question, so there were over 2k students in attendance at this game. Do students count in the overall attendance figures? If so, only 3k paying fans showing up is kind of sad.
Yes, they count. It was a poor crowd otherwise.Question, so there were over 2k students in attendance at this game. Do students count in the overall attendance figures? If so, only 3k paying fans showing up is kind of sad.
