Nepotism is rarely an effective system for productivity.

It doesn’t help that the brother isn’t particularly well-liked in all circles either.

And I don’t even know that many people, but I’ve heard it from 3 or 4 who actually do know a lot of folks.

Brendan is my neighbor and has been super nice to me.  I don't know of anyone who doesn't like him.

Just from looking things up in the past few minutes, the whole actual coaching staff is in their 30s.

Probably a good idea to get an experienced assistant who knows what the f**k he’s doing.

But instead Southern is paying BM a half million dollars a year to bring in a very young coaching staff.

Heck that even surprised me.

Age doesn’t matter, SIU just needs to be better.

Well, apparently none of them can recruit worth a damn.

That’s just a fact.  Everyone sees it.

And like others have said, we are gonna be in this same spot at this time next year.

This team is not only not very good, but also incredibly boring to watch.

that’s not gonna draw in many more people to SIU Arena other than the die hard old timer fans.

@gobluesaluki I don’t understand the bad recruiting thing. They got good players, who had offers from good programs, who area prep scouts considered really good players. I think recruiting is their strong point, now they need to get better coaching… which they will.

Short and sweet. We have a poor offensive scheme. No ball movement. To much standing around. No ball fakes. Poor screen setting. No inside game.

I personally have said and stand by my thoughts that recruiting is this staff's weakest area.  As previously discussed (ad-naseum), the staff deserves some credit indeed for scooping up Domask once he decommitted but the fact remains he chose another school and we got lucky when their coach left.  Our other top player, Jones, was previous coach's recruit.  This year they brought in 3 players who were supposedly good recruits, but 2 of them weren't ready in year 1.   And yes people can bring up the exceptions of players who redshirted but turned out to be good players, but in TODAY'S environment, it is not ideal, especially this season where the team needed players.  Lastly I point to the countless number of recruits who not only chose to not come to SIU but went to in conference rivals.  How about bringing in a 1st team all conference player??  There is not a single player (true recruit) on this existing roster (redshirt or not) who I envision would be a 1st team all Valley.

I am 100% for bringing in players who are "good guys", as every single one of our players seems to be, but at some point they're going to have to bring in multiple players who are capable of being all conference if they expect to win.

When you score in the 40s and then the 30s in back-to-back games and have already lost three home conference games before the calendar hits February, there are certainly fair questions on both the recruiting and coaching front.

Bryan Mullins is extremely popular with virtually the entire fan base (including with me) because of what he did as a player and the classy way he represents himself and the program, so he's in a much better position to ride out the storm than most would be. And the kids are continuing to play very hard. I'm certainly willing to show more patience than I'd like ... I just want him to  meaningfully acknowledge after the season that the status quo isn't cutting it offensively ... whether that's shaking up the staff, revamping the offense behind the scenes, recruiting a different style of player, or some combination.

In the meantime, beat Valpo!

SIU has 3 games left out of 9 against teams ranked higher in KenPom.  If they drop all 3, they’ll have gone 1-11 against teams ranked higher than them.  Last year it was more of the same where they could only beat the bottom of the Valley.  Granted it was without Domask but not only has SIU been Evansville bad the last 2 years (SIU: 8-19, Evansville: 8-18) but all 8 of those wins are against the lower tier teams.

We can scream that SIU is young and facing 5th year Seniors but Bradley is starting 2 Juniors, 2 Sophomores, and a Freshman and is 5-4 in the Valley and #95 on KenPom all while seeing some roster turnover from last year.

BM and the Mullins family have smart basketball minds. BM understands what happening but he will have to make dramatic changes in the off season or he will be a one term coach. Scrap current offenses scheme. New assistant coach with strong offensive background. 2-3 players scholarship that are not renewed and find the best athletes available (point guard, combo guard and wings). Tough decisions in the off season but I think they will occur.

Can also attest to this. Haven't heard anyone say bad things about Brendan.

Yeah there needs to be some changes this offseason if they want to take any step next year.  It’s really unfortunate because these players have committed to the program and fight hard every game but there’s just not enough here right now and there’s not enough spots right now to make a meaningful change.  Just losing Coupet and replacing him doesn’t really change anything.  You’re just replacing your most athletic player.

I personally don’t think you can go into next season with the same roster and schemes and expect to compete for a Valley championship even with the 5th year Seniors leaving.

Punished myself by scanning the box score this AM. In a game when the Dawgs shot sub-30 percent from the floor, a bit odd that D’Amico played 4 minutes and none in the second half when he made his only shot and Southern’s only 3.

If they’re thinking about mixing up the starting lineup (why not?), inserting Troy might be worth considering. He’s one of the team’s few good passers.

Yes, unfortunate. These current players are great kids, love the school and community and play hard.  College BB is a business and if BM wants a six year, change will have to occur
