This team should have about 3-4 more wins then the record shows. This team shouldn't have been swept by both Valpo and Drake and sure as hell shouldn't have lost that home game to Bradley.
No doubt. Could/should be in 1st place. Sad.
Furthermore, I refuse to sweep the mediocre or worse non-conference performance in each of Hinson's seven years under the rug. Should this year's team have gotten destroyed at home by Murray and lost a home game to Winthrop? Gotten clobbered on a neutral floor by UMass (3-11 in the A-10)?
Even if SIU somehow met expectations in MVC play this year, which it has fallen well short of, they'd be looking at a 15 seed in the NCAAs because of another lousy non-conference showing.
I'm tossing the Murray State and Buffalo Home game out the window due to the Armon's Suspensions and Ja Morant being a monster... No excuse for the Winthrop and UMass losses though.

I have watched this team, and it is clear to me that Coach Hinson is the polar opposite of Coach Larrinaga at Miami. Coach Larrinaga tries to never yell or scream at his players...says it is his job to be a teacher. Coach Hinson may not be a full Bobby Knight, but I believe Coach Hinson has gotten in the way of this team being better, as I do not believe this particular group of players responds well to him at all. Yesterday, he seemed to take a day off from the screaming and derision and the team played well. I just base this on nothing more than what I have seen in dozens of TV games and I wonder if I just might be right.

I'm not tossing those aside. This team should have been able to be much more competitive than it was without Fletcher in the lineup, the mark of a good team and a good coach is the ability to adapt and overcome issues, not make excuses.
