I wonder if Alford would consider Carbondale as a place to re-ignite his coaching career. I know that things didn't go well at UCLA this year, but he has a proven track record of success. If he doesn't get any calls from the big boys, would he consider a return to his MVC roots?
No possible way, IMO !
Alford would be a great fit for SIU, but unfortunately we don't have the $$ for a quality coach, He could start tomorrow!
Alford would be a disaster that we don't need. He would leave for the first high-major job he could find.
He will make more money doing TV than we could ever dream of paying, and he will be out the door just as fast.
Missouri State fans are lamenting that Steve didn't get fired last year so that he could return to Springfield. 😂

Limit one former Missouri State coach per one's lifetime!
I am hoping that we'll get through this and pick a new coach who can relate to players and who gets that if he begins to win and can relate to players the fan base will respond with sellouts. There are coaches who would be more than happy to coach the Salukis.
WOOF!

Agree!
I think Yaklich (credited with molding ISU's stout defense the year they were co-MVC champs with Wichita) would be the proverbial home run hire for SIU or any MVC program ... I'm guessing Redbird fans would love to swap him in for Muller right about now. He and Mullins would probably be my preferred two choices if SIU ever gets serious again about playing basketball beyond the first weekend of March.
Yaklich worked for Mike Mullins, too. Intriguing candidate if he is looking.
If the carnage continues is there any chance that the Athletic Department would go ahead and make a coaching change before the Conference tournament? I think the chance of that happening is pretty unlikely.

Personally, I'd love to see that happen, but I don't think this administration would pull the trigger on that.

Maybe at a school that gives a shit. Not SIU.
--Insert something witty here--
If the university had a hair on it’s collective ass, it would fire the parasite immediately.
Just a thought here: out of the blue Doug Novsek was sitting on the bench at the beginning of the season, had a new position created for him, has multiple years experience as an assistant coach, is an ex-Saluki player.

Doesn't appear that Novsek is having too great of an impact on the 2018-19 Salukis. 🤣
If we're talking an interim coach to run the clock out on the season, I'd give the nod to the guy who has steered three talented family members to the program.
If you're suggesting Novsek as a long-term replacement, hell no ...
