He should be starting. I really like him at PG and Jones at 2G. No offense to Trent Brown, who has improved immensely.
Brown with a HUGE 3 !!!!!
AND our Brown holds their Brown to 3 points. Trent gets way too little credit.
Going back a year, he often had to guard the opposition's big man and did a remarkable job. He came in with a reputation as a H.S. gunner, but is making his bones as a defender.

As far as Banks...I still remember John Wooden's philosophy...
It's not so important who starts the game but who finishes it.

Yes, that's true. As long as they all get their PT. It looks to me like we have an 8-man rotation right now, with Lance, Trent, Ben, Marcus, Anthony, Dalton, Filewich, & Verplancken. Injuries to Muila & Dembele and no PT for Butler & Long, for whatever reason.
Its nice to have that kind of firepower coming off the bench to try to eliminate scoring droughts during rotation reminds of what Bruce did with Darren Brooks as a freshman

Agree that the closing lineup is more meaningful than the starting 5. So far, Jones (against SEMO) and Harvey (against Murray) have both been on the bench for key periods of crunch time, which shows you how strongly the coaching staff feels about Brown and Banks (and Jones is still playing his way back into shape).
I would prefer to have Jones and Harvey both out there when games are on the line, though I could see doing some offense-for-defense subs with Harvey and Brown. Interesting decisions for the coaches this year ... we’ll see how it evolves.
Food for though
the 2 freshman and 3 sophomores that are the core of this team will be back next year as freshman and Sophmores with Bryan’s highest rated class coming in.

Although i do like that thought as well, i really disagree with that whole plan the ncaa came up with. The whole point of college is to get an education, not to play sports. By doing this they are going to take away the chance for a lot of kids that are in high school right now to get that education. They need to just leave things alone, give the kids 4 years to play as usual, and move on. This will create more problems than it is going to solve.

I hope we don't have any big transfers but even if we do, SIU is set up with the amount of depth they have. In the Hucky days, one transfer would have been damaging to the future.
Is Dembele injured? Didn't he play against Quincy?
I don't think he's fully recovered from knee surgery. He looked like a man among boys in those few minutes against Quincy. We could sure use some minutes and rbs from him.
Dembele played 7 minutes in the Quincy game. They're gonna need him to give them something with the back to backs even if it's a few minutes a week.
Is Dembele injured? Didn't he play against Quincy?
It looks like there is a mixed crowd on Dembele's abilities. While I think highly of him to persevere despite everything he's been through, I wouldn't expect him to provide much of anything in his Saluki career and, if I were a betting man, I would say that IF someone currently on the roster is not here next year, it is him. A lot of this has to do with his health, or lack thereof. Hoping SIU can sign an experienced, legitimate and healthy big man for next season - if they do this, I honestly believe they can be a top 25 team.
Dembele's first actual game action in almost a year was the Quincy game. So showing rust should only be expected. I still think he has a lot of upside and really is only in his second year of eligibility, which will actually not count. I think the biggest thing he needs is minutes once he is stronger and completely healed. If by the end of this season we don't see the improvement, or if he gets injured again, then yes his future is doubtful. But I'm not ready to write him off and we will certainly need him so he should get the minutes he needs to hopefully give us the help I think he is capable of. Time will tell.
