Funny thing. SEMO might be as good as Murray
I concur. This game will be about our defense. I am not worried about our offense.
Murray State is a top 100 Kenpom Team and SEMO is 332 (out of 357). They're not even in the same ballpark IMO. I've watched both teams and Murray State is for real. SEMO would be lucky to win 5 games in the MVC. If SIU can find a way to stay close to Murray State, or even win, it would be a BIG win.
Murray probably is better than SEMO, but the gap isn't nearly as wide as Kenpom predicts. They tend to give no respect to mid/low major teams (preseason rankings) with a lot of new players early in the season. I suspect that in March, Murray will be in the 100-200 range, and SEMO will easily be better than 300. My estimation is they end up in the 200-250 range.
On a side note, wasn't it Kenpom that predicted SIU to finish below Evansville in the MVC for this season? If so, would you believe that?
KenPom has SIU ahead of Illinois St and Evansville in 8th but a lot of it has to do with past performance until there's enough of a sample size from this year. I do think SEMO is going to be better than predicted but Murray State is still a potential NCAA Tournament team. If they were in the Missouri Valley, I think they'd be right there in the Bradley and Drake range of contenders.
Agreed. Where some think SEMO will rise by the end of the year, I feel they will end up where they usually are, just like Murray State will end up at the top of the conference, as they do every year. As they say, the cream rises. As I said, I've watched both teams and Murray State has the potential to be a REALLY good mid major team.
Given that Murray plays in the Obscure Valley Conference, I'm not so sure that making to the Dance is such great shakes.

Murray got blasted by a pretty bad middle Tennessee team. Soooo
Verplancken starting for Brown today
WRONG !!!!!! Brown on the floor starting.
If Brown would FOLLOW his shot, he might get a few rebounds. Hopefully his hot shooting early was not a result of weaker competition. They need him to have a good game tonight.
Wait Heff was wrong ? Never lol
Not a good shot by Harvey, but it went in so I guess we'll take it.
Brown hits the WIDE OPEN 3 and then D'Avanzo takes the charge. Looking really good so far.

I think I saw SIU put Verplancken as the starter too on their Twitter before they changed it. Someone probably screwed up
I still don't understand why sometimes our players will drive the basket when it's 1 v 3 or even 1 v 4. Jones with a wild drive against 3 players resulting in a bad shot and then Domask does a similar thing. I've always been against taking a shot when there is literally no chance at an offensive rebound. I get it if it's transition, but when you drive wildly 1 v 3 or 4 you're basically putting up a shot that will go in less than 15% of the time.
Ugly, and odd, lineup in for SIU. Not sure I get it.
I'd almost rather see Eric Butler get Long's minutes at this point

Damn you, insaluki! Now I have another project that I'll never get around to: reviewing past game videos to determine the extent to which our dreadful offensive rebounding is due to ill-advised shots!
All kidding aside, you might be onto something here. 😆
