Filewich had 5 boards in 18 minutes. 2 crucial ones at the close of the game
Murray St looking much better (more aggressive) in the 2nd half with multiple 2nd chance opportunities. Jones looking off so far. D'Avanzo is an offensive threat but he would be much more effective as a stretch 4 instead of 5. JD continues to be missed !!!!
This sums up our shortcomings this year. We're down 2 post players (Muila, Dembele) we were counting on having available at the 5. D'Avanzo is doing a tremendous job in my opinion playing out of position and Filewich is getting thrown into the fire as a Freshman. Not ideal. But what a credit that we are getting it done IN SPITE of this.
Did any one notice that during the final 3 minutes of the game, we had 3 sophs and 2 frosh on the court? With a few seconds of D'Avanzo at the very end.
True for the whole game, really: that's about all we have on the active roster! It's going to be fun for the next few years, eh? 😀

Very true. Now add a hopefully healthy Muila, a promising freshman big in Ebube and Filewich after a year of work on his body and his game, and you see why the next two years are looking damn good.
This game was won at the FT line.
We shot 80 percent on 20-26 shooting, and they only got to the line seven times. That is generally sign that you're doing something right. I'm also sure their message board is full of "we got beaten by the refs" b.s., but then again, ours would be too if the numbers were against us. 😛
I thought the refs were OK for the most part - they did call a few wimpy fouls that shouldn't have been called and missed a very obvious travel on Murray, but I've seen a lot worse.

Those were a big 18 minutes for the freshman. Trial by fire, and the stats may not reflect it in some instances, but this team badly needed every one of them and will continue to do so going forward.

Brown with a HUGE 3 !!!!!
AND our Brown holds their Brown to 3 points. Trent gets way too little credit.

I’ll take a young Filewich over Rudy Stradnieks any day.
IF SIU had an experienced big man in the middle tonight (think JD), this game would not have been this close. Filewich will be a beast for us, patience.

Foster Wonders is a name you should mention when talking about the future. He is going to be a problem for the Valley

For sure, he and D’Amico. Was just focusing on shoring up the bigs.
