So glad SIU can’t go anywhere this year. That trip to Cuba really helped
Yes I was not in favor last year of going. Why send a Senior heavy team, when you know the next season you could use that time to build a mainly all new team. Dumb
Dumb, yes, but it was politically inspired, not really for basketball.
cc: I very much look forward to your response here that supplies additional detail for your opinion about the political inspiration of the Cuba trip.
(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”
Actually, if it wasn’t that BH was the coach it does generally make sense. Lots of teams take their best team on that trip so as to get them together early both from a bonding and teaching aspect. They are looking to build on their experience for an NCAA run.

Yes most schools do this. Yes they want the bonding and experience. But I have never heard of a college doing it with as many Sr's as we had. Period!
Smart move by Marcus getting off the sinking ship
Hate to see him go but the writing is on the wall over there. Smart move indeed.
Craving a McBride Special!
FWIW in a slow time of year:
Don’t agree. Think they’ll be a Thursday team but they won’t be last.

I think, on paper, picking SIU last at this point is a reasonable take, but hopefully the combination of having three likely senior starters and the jolt of enthusiasm the program and fan base will receive from Mullins taking over will allow them to exceed expectations next year.

The above are my takes also, you guys nailed it. So many variables on Saluki team next year.
I have tempered expectations, but they are these: team oriented fundamental play, tough defense, improvement throughout the season, and enthusiasm. They do that, it works for me.
March on triumphantly!
I think 9th or 10th is quite reasonable. The team we see in November will be much different than the team we see at the end of February, IMO.
I'm thinking this team may end up in the middle of the pack. We know they'll be drilled in defense and if they have a few offensive threats they'll be OK. My opinion is based on the fact that while SIU played tough while Mullins was the leader, they also had fun...I even saw a few smiles back then.

I'm completely okay with being picked 10th. That means anything they do next season will be a plus.
