Ford has real issues...doubt he lasts long at Most. A bunch of portal benchwarmers does not impress me. Redturd alum..no surprise.

The portal insanity will be changed by the NCAA imo.

Verplancken? Two good games a year. Now we have an opportunity for a seriously good player.

Former 4-star, nationally ranked recruit. I think that'd be the second one that Ford will have brought in.

He and Missouri State are a dichotomy. They've had a bunch of players transfer out, making you wonder if there are some locker room issues, yet they're red hot on the recruiting trail.

Should be a ton of transfer commits in May, now that very few additional players will be entering the portal. We should know soon if we fill the last 2 spots with impact transfers or not.

A poster on their message board had some pretty disparaging things to say about Dana Ford and someone on his staff (I won’t repeat b/c they are unsubstantiated). Seem to imply a lot of the players had been looking for an out for awhile now, which led to the mass exodus.

Transfers can bring baggage. Limiting transfers to just a couple or few helps sustain a culture. Bringing in as many transfers as MSU, no matter how good they are invites serious trouble in and out of the locker room. Ford has not established a good culture, and in my view this formula is not a model for sustained success. He better hope some of his transfers are not just me first guys. Players need to play team basketball in order to win at the D1 level. His past relative success will be tough to sustain, imo.

For years SIU won "ugly" and while it was hard to watch at times, but they won.  I'm sure every team wants to draft the best players, further develop them, KEEP them for the entirety of their college 'career' and WIN as many games as possible with those players.  The question you need to ask yourself is, which of the aforementioned is most important if you were able to have only 1?  For many it would be WINS !!!

For me personally, I'd rather win by most means (that are moral and ethic) than lose every year, even if the players you lose with are great guys, get the best grades, stay for all 4 years, etc.

I don’t know if this is going to work out for Missouri State but I don’t see how adding extremely talented pieces that give you a legit shot at winning the Valley is a bad thing.  Unless those pieces don’t fit a culture, but Ford’s stability at Missouri State until this offseason has been pretty good.

I criticize Ford’s coaching because he doesn’t get the most of his talent but it’s also a product of him putting them in position to have high expectations every year, something I sure would love to have again at SIU.

This would potentially explain a lot behind why Missouri St wasn't able to put it together on the court and win consistently in spite of all that talent. If key players don't want to be there for whatever reason, you've got a toxic locker room. It's impossible to focus on winning in that environment. We saw it happen with Chris Lowery a couple different times after 2008.

I may be wrong, but I would be extremely surprised if they won the valley or even were in the top 3 next year. 90%+ turnover is a serious problem. He hasn't added extreme talent imo. He hasn't added anyone close to the proven level of Prim or Mosely. He added a couple guys who were 3* out of hs, but didn't really play at all at power conference schools. He also added some decent, but not great mid major transfers. He added a juco with good numbers. He may still get a 4*, but we shall see. So far, he hasn't added any 4 or 5 star guys to replace the 10 guys he lost. He may still get a 4*, but it will be interesting to see if ALL the new players gel together. I may be a contrarian, but I don't think MSU will not be as good as they were last year. SIU, with a healthy Jones and Domask will be better.

The Missouri Valley has taken ten steps back this offseason with the portal.  It's not going to take much to push yourself up to the top of the Valley as currently constructed.  Schools like Northern Iowa and Murray State who might have competed have lost a lot and haven't really replaced that talent as of right now.  There's reason for optimism for some teams like Illinois State and Indiana State but I don't really see either competing next year.  It might be a more competitive conference than people think top to bottom but the top of the Valley right now isn't very impressive.  I'd take Drake as my preseason favorites right now because I think DeVries is by far the best coach in the conference but even they have questions.  I think Missouri State is 2nd right now.

As currently constructed right now, I don't think SIU has enough to compete.  They've made a perfect addition in Xavier Johnson to run the offense and he should make everyone better but they've also lost Coupet and Verplancken (two of their better non Domask and Jones scorers last year) and Johnson isn't exactly a scorer.  I do think Wonders and Ebube will help next year, but I don't think we can realistically expect either to make a huge impact in their 1st years.   Ditto Hornecker.

Now you tell me SIU adds an impact transfer (and there's plenty still out there), I'll start to get excited about them competing.  But if they're adding an Anthony D'Avanzo or Jakolby Long level transfer(s), I just can't see them scoring enough again to compete.

SIU has a real opportunity here to make some noise in the Valley so these next few weeks will be huge.  Right now, I'm a bit nervous.

MSU basically has 1 player coming back, last years transfer Donovan Clay. I don't think you can project them 2nd in the mvc with a roster of over 90% transfers and incoming freshman. They have added some players who were well thought of coming out of HS, but haven't done anything in D1 yet. Some decent mid majors and a decent juco. They have not added any game changing players. No one they have added can compare to what Prim and Mosely gave them. I don't think they will be picked preseason top 3.
