Lot of upsets on opening day including Western Illinois and 2nd year head coach Rob Jeter beating Nebraska at Lincoln and Northern Illinois and 1st year head coach Rashon Burno beating Washington at Seattle.

Also Navy beating #25 Virginia, The Citadel beating Pittsburgh, Miami (OH) beating Georgia Tech, and UC San Diego beating Cal.

And Akron almost upset Ohio State

NIU's new coach is playing a tough schedule: at Indiana, Missouri, Dayton, and Marquette. Good for him.

Washington was picked to finish 11 of 12 teams in the PAC 12. NIU player had game of his life with 28 pts and six 3 pointers.

Darius Beane transferred from to Cal St Northridge for this year - who knows where he'll be next year. Sad! They lost 1st game at USC by 50. Beane played 19 minutes and did little!

I was looking at how Darius played yesterday and he barely played.  Maybe he’s dealing with an injury.  Mark Gottfried was the coach there but he’s under NCAA investigation.

Think he turns 22 in December and I think he has one year of eligibility left.

I went to see if his dad was on staff there and saw that their entire staff is labeled as interim

Speaking of former Salukis, I'm sure some of you have seen Sean O'Brien is a grad assistant at Georgia.

Two others of note, former student manager Lucas Hunter is in his second season as an assistant coach at D2 Northeastern State in Oklahoma. And another former student manager George Brandon was hired as video coordinator this season at Stephen F. Austin out in the WAC, they won against a D2 school last night.

Aaron Cook is at Georgia with Sean O'Brien and had 10 points on 3-12 shooting with 6 rebounds and 8 assists in a win over FIU

Pretty sure I had read something months ago about Beane Sr being hired as an assistant at CSUN, but don't see him listed now.

Gottfried and all his coaches (including Jim Harrick fresh from the old folks home)  are on Admin leave for rules violations.

Colorado looked beatable today. Game with New Mexico was a lot closer than the score line. We'd be smart to take a page from their book and get to the line early and often.

Illinois just lost to Marquette committing 26 turnovers!  After the Little Rock game I can't imagine 4 more turnovers.

Belmont/Furman are playing a thriller in Nashville.  Not sure if anyone is watching but their arena looks electric tonight.  They're gonna be great additions to the Valley.

Belmont wins in OT vs a Furman team coming off a win over Louisville. San Francisco off to a 4-0 start. Excited for our game against them

I was there and Illinois has learned nothing from their Loyola smackdown last year. MU was killed on the boards and barely shot over 50% from the free throw line, but their defense was floor burn U. And yes, it was turnover city for the Illini.

March on triumphantly!
