@mr_woogers I do think there will be contracts and buyouts. What you will see, though, is your best players (at any level) are only going to sign 1 year deals. Which wouldn't change much.
I do think salary cap is a good option - but that's like trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube at this point I feel like.
The ultimate end to save any form of college b-ball is the secession from the Power 4/5. Leonard talked about this on the pod interview - the mids and small majors have to form the entity first though rather than being forced into it.
If that's the case I think there's a lot of cheating going on. There's no way more teams shouldn't be below the threshold that has been set for academic progress. The APR stuff is still in effect.
I think there has been discussions behind closed doors regarding contracts and NIL caps. The number I've heard for the cap is +/-$20M. That would supposedly be the entire schools maximum NIL budget. I think that would be an incredibly welcome guardrail. At $20M for all sports mid majors would still be at a disadvantage, but not nearly as great as before. The big 4 conference schools would spend a lot on football and if mid majors put an emphasis on basketball it would certainly help make them a little more competitive.@mr_woogers I do think there will be contracts and buyouts. I am one who believes there are many to blame for this NIL fiasco.
1. Players
Even though I am disappointed in Dibba leaving, it certainly was no surprise. Chicago State, Abilene Christian, SIU, and a fourth school to be named for Ali. Student athlete?
If a player/players do not want to be at SIU, then I say adios Amigo! It has never been my practice to berate a player after a tough loss, or during a season. They are after all a Saluki. Did not feel it was justified or fair to the (student athlete). Paid employees at any job face evaluations, critiques, and job performance checklist. Perhaps now I feel a bit different on this subject. Fans, Alumni, and donors are asked to purchase merchandise, season tickets, give on the SIU Day of Giving, as well as the NIL AND SASF? I must say that it is becoming difficult to buy in when we continue to lose players that have zero loyalty.
2. Parents
IMO: There is little doubt that parents of these athletes have a say, and expect a piece of the pie. They produced them, might as well use them to help supplement their retirement.
3. Agents
Whispering into the ears of these athletes are agents who absolutely want the best for their client........and themselves! Leeches I say! Watching the NCAA tournament this year, at least for me has certainly been a turnoff. NIL has turned the game into the mini me NBA. 3's and dunks...exciting. All four #1 seeds represent the Final Four. The P5's got what they wanted. Very few upsets = boring.
4. NCAA
Equals : Nobody Cares About Accountability
Hope is really all we have, in anything we do. Have a good feeling that we're going to be ok. We shall overcome.
In the words of the late Chester Bennington of Linkin Park...Because in the end, it doesn't even matter.
GO DAWGS!!!

You might as well drop Athletics at that point because no one would care.
