It's crazy to me that these players can come back. A little part of me wants to see some turnover on the roster and get some fresh blood in the program. If Domask gets another season he will easily be the all time leading scorer. Which is unfair to the others that only had 4 years on the court.
One caveat there is Domask missed most of his sophomore season with injury.
I don’t love the five years of eligibility myself in terms of the effect on the underclassmen but it would be hard to feel great about SIU’s near-term prospects if Domask moves on with how little PT the younger guys have received this year. And it also would be tough for Southern given rival programs such as Drake and Loyola, and likely Bradley next year, will have been strengthened substantially from extra-year veterans if SIU does not get the same benefit.
We shall see.
I was thinking about that and wondering if Domask could realistically get a medical redshirt year on top of the covid year? Not that he'd want to do that. But was just wondering if it is a possibility for him.

As I recall he played in too many games that year (barely) for the medical redshirt to have been an option, but I'm not 100 percent positive.
This is a huge game. Lets get it and wrap up top 4 and a bye in STL. I want Bradley again, we will beat them this time.
I would expect all players to participate in senior night but it does not mean they are gone. Many Drake players participated last year and as we know all those 38 year olds returned. If they don't come back I believe in Mullins to keep us competitive, look what he did in his first season and that was off a foundation of garbage, much better foundation now. He can rebuild the roster and will if needed. That's the thing about the way his teams guard, it gives us chances to win even if our talent is inferior. Hopefully Davis is big time.

I went back to last year’s recap of their Senior Day game against us and they did honor Tremmell Murphy but didn’t honor Penn, Sturtz, and Wilkins (who all came back for a 5th year).
I thought Sturtz at least went through senior day festivities, I guess I am wrong though. Many Drake players participated last year and as we know all those 38 year olds returned.

May be wrong, but i seem to recall losing Williams,Dearman, and Roberts to graduation all in one year. How could they possibly compete after that loss with redshirts, freshman etc?
THIS. I think people forget that the hope is we are building a program that can sustain success. Maybe some ups and downs but who says X, Foster, D'Amico, Davis, Ebube with Rupert/Cade, Banks and Ferguson off the bench can't be a good team? Making up stuff rotation wise, but you get the point.May be wrong, but i seem to recall losing Williams,Dearman, and Roberts to graduation all in one year. Williams and Dearman had one more year after Roberts' one season with the program. That was the heartbreaker ending against Mizzou in the first round of the NCAAs.

Roberts graduated after the Sweet 16 season. Dearman and Williams were the next year. Darren Brooks took on a bigger role in 2003 and then when guys graduated he became a Player of the Year player in 2004. They also had a Sweet 16 core and had Matt Painter coaching them in 2004.
I’d love to be more optimistic about a Domask- less team next year but it’s hard to be confident in guys that can’t get off the bench this year. Domask does so much for this team. We saw what happened in his Sophomore season when he got hurt and the team completely collapsed to the bottom
I think they all will participate in ceremony, Domask and Jones probably try to play overseas pro ball. My opinion they are not back next season. Hopefully siu can get something going at the end of season and win a couple of wins and maybe make Sunday game in mvc tournament

In general I agree but there are 2 major differences. 1, I believe that this team is actually deeper than that one, and should compete better. 2, we aren’t playing back to back games like that season. It was just a weird season in general. I’m scared of the post Domask era but I do believe that is Mullins real opportunity to show what type of program we will have under him. If we compete just as well after Domask, then we probably have a sustainable program with Mullins.
But, like you, as of right now, I’m still scared of what it looks like.
Losing your best player mid season is far different than building a roster without any certain player.May be wrong, but i seem to recall losing Williams,Dearman, and Roberts to graduation all in one year. How could they possibly compete after that loss with redshirts, freshman etc?

If Domask leaves, we are gonna find out how valuable he was pretty damn quickly. That could be a disaster if it’s this fall.
Supporter of the Fab 4: Scottie Ebube, Foster Wonders, AJ Ferguson & Cade Hornecker.
They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.
It would be a HUGE challenge to have to replace Domask, BUT it's arguably EASIER now than ever to replace a high caliber player with the Portal and immediate eligibility. Again, I'm not saying I'd rather not have Domask, but when he leaves (AFTER next season), Mullins can sign a power 5 forward to replace him.
Eight members of the basketball program will be honored pregame at approximately 6:40 p.m. including Marcus Domask, Lance Jones, Trent Brown, JD Muila, and Jawaun Newton. SIU managers Max Boston, Tim Caldwell, and Justin Endsley will be honored for their work off the court.
No Xavier Johnson listed unless that’s a mistake
