I was listening to WSCR The Score 670am this morning.  When Moser was asked directly if he was going to be at Loyola next year, he didn't answer the question.  The interview is not yet up on their website.  I'll try put up a link later today.

For the sake of SIU's future, I hope he stays.

If he leaves, Bryan Mullins will be their next head coach.

Interesting.

I would not be surprised if there were schools interested in him; pretty much all the coverage of Loyola during the tournament focused on how well coached and well prepared they were for every game. Not to mention all the talk about the "culture" and the way he built the program from the ground up. That is going to prick up some ears.

I would think, though, that big-time programs would want to see if he can sustain this success, but maybe someone would be willing to roll the dice. Crazier things have happened.

(Inflammatory political snark)

A career under .500 coach in about 15 years, until this year's 25 or 26 games over got him over the average mark.  This is getting to be like pro sports.  Be average or suck for quite a while and have one big season & get a huge deal.  Pretty ridiculous.  He will fail if one of the Power 5 schools get him.

Very true, but a run to the Final Four such as Loyola's will garner him some interest. If Moser is looking for a payday, he'll likely jump at it knowing full well his history. I'd wager he'd be eager to take on the challenge at some Power 5 school should the opportunity arise.

He very well might jump at a big job. It would be a dumb move as far as his legacy goes. In the MVC, he might actually be able to do something with Wichita & Creighton gone & SIU being irrelevant right now.

As others have pointed out, we can only hope he stays or Mullins is off the table for us.  But there are other good coaching prospects out there. It sure would be nice to have Mullins tho.

He's not going anywhere. He's from Chicago and it sounded like Loyola is going to give him the "Lowery Contract".

Good. Chicago should have more Greg Cooks than we do.   😍

After going 22-39 (6-28 in Horizon) in his first two years Moser was given a four year extension--the last year of his current contract was to run out July of this year. He went 89-106 till this great year--and is now 121-112 in seven years

Porter went to Benet Academy in Lisle, IL and lives in the northshore currently with a few kids in HS at Loyola Academy.  I believe he is from a family with generational wealth. So I think he will stay if Loyola ponies up a little more dough, I do not believe him leaving will be about $.

You are correct in that assumption.  I mentioned this in the former SalukiNation thread.  Though one can never say never, he is a devout catholic, coaching at a Jesuit university in his home town.  Money will not be an issue, but I believe Loyola will do the right thing and reward him for his work to keep him.  Not that he has any intention of leaving, but some idiot AD at the lower dregs of a P6 conference might just think offering a million dollar contract or more to a guy who brought a nobody to the final 4 might possibly keep "his" job for another 2 or 3 years.

Absent that, Porter is not going anywhere.  He's a star in his hometown.  Who wouldn't want to milk that for everything it's worth?

This is true. His dad was a founder of the Naperville riverwalk, and donated his lumber company building for what is now the dupage children's museum.

Porter is thriving here, the recruiting pipeline is open and his family is already well off. There's a select few jobs I think he'd consider in the Midwest, but it's hard to imagine him jumping to another market just for a million dollars.

I wouldn't expect him to answer the question, but I don't think he will be around long. He is .500 coach and the shelf life on his opportunity is about 12 months.  I don't buy his "awe shucks" routine any more than I buy it from Huck.  A multi-million dollar offer and a chance to play in front of more than 1,200 people every game will free him from Loyola.  I don't blame him.  Maybe the fans in Omaha start to get restless with McDermott after next season and he makes the jump.  I doubt he would hesitate to take over at SLU either.

Is there even a job open that he would take?  Rhode Island is probably the best job out there.  My guess is his agent is telling him to play coy to try and get a nice payday out of this from Loyola.
