I'm... a little concerned about the defense, we just gave up 61 points to a shitty D2 school...

Drake gave up 53 to St. Ambrose, an NAIA school.  Defense could have been better but the bench also played a lot.

@the-bobber That was the D2 school that beat us Chris Lowery's last year, right?

EDIT: Didn't we lose to the D2 school that hosted the Great Alaska Shootout in 2001-2002?

EDIT: It was  2005-2006

I was at the Ohio Dominican game, the lowpoint of the Lowery era and probably the entire program.  And it wasn't like they were a good Division II team, they ended that season 4-22(!!!) and lost 14 in a row before winning their last game.

I'm not concerned one bit.

The offense looks significantly improved and we have quite a few guys who can score the basketball. That is extremely promising, in my opinion. The defense was not good today but that can and definitely will be improved as Bryan and company continue working with them this season. Good offense is much more difficult to attain, so I'm excited about what I've seen there in these first two games.

The defense will get better. Just think about how little time they have had to practice. The inside game will have problems in conference but there are a lot of things to like. Next year and the year after should be our years to really have fun.

They were playing a team whose best player probably could not even make it as a walk on at SIU. I am sure they were working on other things

I’m not sure how much a coach affects individual games, but Brendan is the offensive-minded guy and Bryan is defense.  Bryan might emphasize defensive adjustments more when he’s back on the sideline.  Just throwing that thought out there, I could be completely off base 😂, but I’m not worried a bit about giving up 61 to them.

Considering we scored 102, I'm not too concerned about giving up 61.  Verplancken looked much more confident today.

@rockin-dawg

A stud Div II player played relatively well and with confidence against a Div II team.  I hope with time he can play with more confidence on both ends of the floor going forward this year.
