D’Avanzo will be back, you can’t coach experience. Also, I see where Kyler Filewich was voted to all freshman team. The future is bright.

Did D'Avanzo announce he will be returning? He could be a decent bench player for this team next season.

Not to my knowledge, I should have said, I believe he will be offered a scholarship.

Congrats to Lance and Trent!
One of the most unusual seasons is finally over for the Salukis. Now another unusual off season is going to start. There are so many wild cards out there that I think trying to figure out what the team will look like to start next season is going to be a whag at best. With the pending approval of the transfer rules allowing a free transfer for players the movement could be wild. That paired with the additional year of eligibility just makes things even more wild. Just think about a major power 5 conference losing players to the NBA or moving on looking at options and thinking that Lance Jones might just be a really good piece to add. And Lance thinking if I am in the BIG10 or ACC or SEC and get showcased for a year or two what might my NBA options be? Just a thought.
What players, and how many, that are on teams in those conferences and others are looking at another year of playing fewer minutes or behind someone coming back for the extra year when they assumed that "their chance" was going to be coming next year under normal circumstances. If you let your imagination run wild there are so many possibilities that it could be real wacky.
Or...maybe not. Should be interesting though.
Interested to get everyone else’s take but I think we’ll have at least 2 scholarships to fill in the Spring. I think most agree that Butler won’t be back. I also think Dembele isn’t coming back...just don’t see how he can play at a high level with his leg giving him trouble. I could also see one more unexpected person transfer like a Harvey or Verplanken because that’s just how College Basketball is these days. I think Long won’t come back here for his extra year if at all and if the money is available, I think D’Avanzo comes back.
That would leave them with 2-3 spots to fill in the spring and it looks like they are targeting a PG and athletic wing from what they’ve offered to date. Excited to see who they can land and looking forward to next year, especially to see some games in person (only 8 months away 😉).
Has there been rumors Butler won't be back? I just assumed he wasn't quite ready to get minutes this year.

There will be more, not less, competition for time next year. He was glued to the bench all season. Common sense and the high transfer rates in today’s game would seem to make his return unlikely.

I don’t know exactly who stays and who goes, but I’d be very surprised if they don’t add at least two more players to the mix this spring/summer.
And I hope they’re guys who can challenge for major roles, along with the incoming freshmen. You hope the returning guys will make strides, but more competition, depth and athleticism are definitely needed if the Salukis are going to make a needed big step forward from 9th (along with better health, obviously).
More offensive rebounds, blocked shots, dunks and quicker rotations on defense, all welcome.
I would guess Butler, Long and Dembele do not return. I also expect 1 more player to not return, be it via SIU not renewing his scholarship or him transferring by his own accord. I believe we will look to sign two upper classman via transfer, juco or both. If the 3 I mentioned above leave and everyone else comes back that would give us 12 scholarship players. Since I think we will sign another veteran PG and an athletic impact player that can play the 3 or 4 positions, I think there will be one additional loss. My reasoning is that even if we can carry more than 13 scholarship players we will not choose to do so due to cost and lack of PT.
Do we expect Harvey back? I'm not sure there's much of a role for him next year assuming Wonders is what he's cracked up to be

I'm not sure why folks think Wonders is going to come in from extremely small school UP Michigan and have a big impact immediately. I love his range and offensive potential, but he looks slow on film and has a long way to go on defense. D1 basketball is very fast compared to very small HS basketball. It will be a huge adjustment. I think if Harvey adds strength and works on his defense he could still be a valuable piece, even if off the bench. He has 2 years D1 experience and Wonders has none.
IDK why you would think Ben Harvey would leave. I'm pretty sure he likes it here and is comfortable in his role.
But like all of you, I am curious as to how this off season pans out and if Southern will lose/gain anyone via transfer.

I’d say Harvey will be back
