We currently have 1 available scholly. I have seen multiple comments from fans about the teams need for MULTIPLE transfers, or players in general, to help the team move past their current level of mediocrity. To those I post this question: What do you predict occurs in order for that to happen? That being said, if it would offend too many to post names then you may disregard this post. I am genuinely curious, however, to see what moves you have in mind in order for us to get more than the current 1 available scholly.
@insaluki I predict there will be at least 2 more scholarship’s available for a total of 3
My biggest worry with Ebube and Wonders is if they are ostensibly ready to contribute next year then they should have been this year.
Players like Muila and Filewich should not be blocking anyone. Muila is a fringe D1 player and Filewich is a big who you can plug in to get some offense. Neither should be starting D1 basketball games.
Ben Harvey and Trent Brown were out most of the year and a mediocre D2 transfer started almost every game so that is not exactly a good indictment of Wonders.
Very few D1 players are ready as freshman.
Wonders has a great stroke. The only real question in my mind will be can he get his shot off. If he can, then he will be fine.
@Mdog1 I think you are right one. I imagine Cade and 3 additional recruits for next year. Without naming players, I count 5 players that could be recruited over to make this team better.

Perhaps so but I doubt "building a culture" includes getting rid of past recruiting failures by the current staff.
@insaluki couldn’t agree more. Watching these kids play was a pleasure even in loss. They played hard and their character was never in doubt. Absolutely no trash talking or gloating, just great role models the university can be proud of. These are the teammates that will gladly help the team off the bench if they are not starting and are “recruited over”. I like the culture I see. The offense and lack of a zone option against a more athletic team are another story…..
I really think a speedy, quality true point gaurd would make this team competitive in the mvc, now if we are talking winning games in the big tournament, I believe anyone that has been watching games this weekend can see that siu is far from that. NIT would be a good goal next season, after that , could be a mizzou type deal. 5th year Mullins could be bad if certain players hit the transfer portal , another rebuild, but we've been in rebuild for so long, I'm numb to it, but I support the teams unconditionally
@salukiworld Would Xavier Johnson at PG and Isaiah Cottrell at the stretch 4 do it for you? 😆
We absolutely have to get a point guard that can handle the ball, distribute the ball, and can direct players on offense. If they can score, that's a huge bonus. SIU threw the ball away far too much this season and their offense was stagnant (one guy attempting to drive to the hoop and 4 guys watching). It was tough to watch. Personally, I think the stagnant offense is on the coaching staff. Not sure if they know how to run a motion offense.

If I had the money to be a big-time donor, I would pay for a consultant (a Pete Carril protege) to come here and teach the Princeton offense, which would be suited to our roster of smart, unselfish players who are not the most athletic guys to take the floor. It's not as though you'd have to run that offense exclusively, but some motion and backdoor cuts interspersed with the usual "4-1" offense would be nice. ("4-1": four guys standing around the perimeter watching one guy try to do something).
I don't mean to rag on the Mullins brothers: the budget is so tight that they don't really have the time or energy to learn new stuff. So yeah: that would be my donation to the program.
OK, off to buy some lottery tickets! 😆
(Inflammatory political snark)
A good distributor PG of the ball is not gonna hack it unless he can add 12 - 14 ppg. When you've got two - three guys on the floor that can't score and the players stand around waiting for nirvana, getting them the ball does nothing, especially when you don't have a big man offensive threat. If you saw Saint Pete and Murray play, those guys are constantly moving, cutting, screening blah blah blah!
If I had ONE schollie to give, I'd be looking for #1) a talented PG that can score like Jones and Domask or #2) a talented PF that can score like Jones and Domask.
Even with that, the coaching staff must have better offensive schemes. I thought they improved towards the end of the year when they sped it up, but our bad shooting often doomed us anyway.
A good distributor PG that doesn't score is not going to make us competitive in the MVC.

I agree they were better at the end of the year. Waiting for a "perfect" shot and then having to put up a prayer at the end of the shot clock does not work.
I know some expected more, but this keeps things in perspective for me and why I still see progress with this program. Highest KenPom ranking since 2008, which includes all seasons from Barry.
