I do hope this post ages well. I like the fact that keeping players, and specifically our best players, has not been a problem under Mullins so far. Yea a few players transferred out the first year, but that happens all the time as coaches have to sign so many in such a short time that first season.
Some teams are getting just demolished through the portal right now.

Wishing Kyler the best. He had some athletic limitations but played hard, seemed like an excellent teammate and was a pretty effective post scorer when he had the right matchups.
Curious whether he picks another US school or returns north of the border.
As mentioned before, if Hornecker redshirts, unless they bring in a big-man transfer this spring, this leaves Muila and Ebube to share minutes at the 5 next season.
I am saddened by his decision, but I wish Kyler all the best wherever he goes.

While I agree he had limitations, I liked this young man. He made a huge impact his freshman season and fit in the Mullins Culture perfectly. I do feel, however, that SIU can potentially upgrade the position so this might be a win win for Kyler and SIU. I also have concerns, as you mention, if Muila and Ebube are the only 2 big-men next season. While some will not want to hear this, Ebube is not a scorer and possibly (not saying likely) a very similar player to Muila in that their strengths are defense, quickness, athleticism, etc. Hopefully Cade is ready to step in year 1, although my thoughts as of today are that he might not be ready.

Damn. Our thin front court is now even thinner. We better hope Ebube is the real deal. I wonder if Mullins will try to get a big from the portal now.

I was super excited about Kyler after his freshman year. It was a weird situation this season, didn't feel like Bryan trusted him. Kyler's ability to pass the ball was one of his best assets and this year that was basically non-existent. Wish him the best wherever he ends up. Definitely need a big in the portal this year if possible
The post was liked by Banks as well. Still could mean nothing, but I hope we don’t lose him too.

Whether they need a big in the portal (or JUCO), to me, is largely contingent on how ready Ebube is to play. If he can develop into a 25-minute performer, combined with Muila and playing small at times, I'm not sure they need one. If that's not the case, they probably do, or Southern will struggle in the paint again. Obviously the coaches are equipped to make that call.
For what it's worth, based on outside perspective, it seemed as though Kyler was Dalton's closest friend on the team.
Kyler was a great kid and represented SIU with class. Wish him the best !
I saw that we were linked to a couple of bigs in the transfer portal already.
I also do not think that we can afford to redshirt anyone in this transfer portal environment. Cade will need to give us minutes almost right from the get go. I also see him as a big who can move outside and hit the occasional outside shot.
No one worked harder than Kyler when he was on the floor. I wish him the best.
