Filewich is very justified and I have no hard feelings. The staff kind of did him dirty.
There was really no reason Muila was ahead of him on the depth chart and the distribution of their minutes was baffling.
While Muila was "better" defensively and as a rebounder, he wasn't that much better and definitely not when you consider how abysmal he is offensively. Filewich was so much better both as a scorer and distributor that the minor difference in their defense didn't matter.
Filewich also had a short leash no matter how he played. He would get yanked or sat for no discernable reason while Muila was left out there no matter how poorly he played and it wasn't until late in the season that this discrepancy started to even out.
I feel bad for him. Neither him nor Muila were really suited to being starters on an MVC team but only one of them was shunned for no real reason.
Good luck young man
For what it's worth, based on outside perspective, it seemed as though Kyler was Dalton's closest friend on the team.
They were roommates their freshman year.

My hope is that Hornecker and Ebube are both ready to contribute significantly.
I think we're going to be very surprised and happy with Ebube. My only concern with him is as a redshirt freshman with his size and athleticism is he might often be prone to foul trouble.
Mullins might look to add an experienced big through the portal, even if both freshman are ready. I believe this will be especially true if we have another departure.

I said earlier we need to add a big. With Muila, Euebe and possibly Hornecker I think we would benefit more from a versatile 4 who has the ability to occasionally play the 5 in short spurts. This would absolutely benefit Domask. These are the kind of players we have been targeting in the portal too it seems
@salukifan32 Completely agree. A PF to split time with D'Amico would allow Domask to move to the 3 spot. Too bad we missed out on NJ Benson from Mt. Vernon.
I believe Mullins has thoughts of playing Horneker some at the 4.

That would be very matchup driven, if true. There is no way Horneker could effectively guard some of the athletic & quick 6'6"-6'8" pf that typically start in the mvc. Good examples of past and present players he could not effectively guard when playing the 4 include- Hemphill, Uguak, Carter, Devries, Clay, Heise, Murphy, etc.

That’s certainly true, we didn’t have anybody who could stop most of them anyway. 😎. Matchup problems can go both ways.

Completely agree - I was baffled that KF got so little playing time when he was much better offensively and passing the ball. Still think in a couple of years, he will be a real asset to somebody. Never gonna be quick enough to be a great rebounder or defender though.

I like the idea that SIU could potentially create a lot of matchup headaches in either direction, big or small. I also have a sneaking suspicion that Mullins will explore Cade at the 4 given his ability to stretch the floor. It potentially seems like a good marriage with what Ebube can do.

I don't see why people are saying we're thin at the post. We still have Muila, Ebube, and Hornecker. The 5-spot was actually getting overcrowded. I'm guessing that's why Kyler chose to transfer.
Muila is not very good.
Ebube and Hornecker have played zero seconds of college basketball.

Don’t get why you keep saying Muila isn’t good when SIU was constantly better when he was on the court. The main problem is he’s not great on offense and there wasn’t enough offense around him
Because SIU being better is a subjective opinion on your part?
Stats say otherwise. He was an average rebounder who was mediocre defenensively. He couldn't score and was awful at distribution while being a horrid free throw shooter.
I dont know why this board is so enamored with him.
