Not sure why we need another center unless it's a no-brainer. I want a power forward who can score and rebound.

Agree with this, our greatest need now is a super athletic 4. However, if a center transfer is a game changer that may be hard to pass up.

Filewich to Wofford.

Filewich ends up at a program that has had more recent success than the program he left. Good for him

I really don't follow recruiting much any more, but I agree, Bryan really needs to put his foot on the pedal and start bringing in better, more talented kids. There were way too many games last year that were painful to watch. We were just over matched in too many positions on the court.

Not having an inside game was a lot of the overmatching problem. Brian had to use a small lineup which caused multiple players to be undersized. I hope we Ebube helps that this year.

It's tough in today's transfer portal climate.  I think the staff has been going after guys that might stay committed to SIU for 4-5 years as opposed to more talented players that might have a good season and look for a chance to move up a level.  It's amazing how many players I've seen hit the portal the last 2 years that we've recruited at one point.  Take a Jeremiah Williams for example who just transferred out of Temple for Iowa State.

We're gonna find out if they took the right path in the next 2 years with Jones & Domask being Seniors.

Almost didn't post this Salukiworld is one of the best posters on here. But Wow that's the first time I have heard this one. Bryan didn't even sign Jones. Sounds like a poor plan IF you end up getting fired because you didn't win.

The only transfers so far have been guys that were recruited over or didn't get playing time like Eric Butler and Filewich.  And I'm not saying the guys they've brought in aren't talented at all.  Marcus Domask is extremely talented.  But they've seemed to avoid guys that aren't committed to SIU that might have more talent than the players they've brought in.  Guys like Jordan Caroline that played 1 year and bolted, although hard to blame Caroline who left fired coach to play for a great coach in Eric Musselman.

It's a tough thing to weigh for mid-major coaches because you can bring in a ton of talent but risk major turnover to the portal like you've seen at Valpo or you can bring in guys committed to a program and try to build a program that way.  Given how crazy the transfer portal has gotten recently, we really haven't seen which way works better yet.

That's not entirely true, sure he didn't originally sign him, but he is the one that convinced him to stay here when he got the job. Jones could have gone anywhere he wanted after BH was canned, but Mullins re-recruited him to stay.

I agree that Mullins has done a good job keeping Jones but that wasn't the point of the post. Salukiworld is saying that Mullins is trying to recruit guys that he feels will stay around and my point is Mullins didn't originally sign Jones.  I am really glad Jones has stayed, he could play at a lot of schools.

Until we hear otherwise, id say yes. However, ive seen it in the past where guys leave because of injury and its never announced. The first indication we may get of him leaving is if we get two more commits. If we get that, then we know someone else is gone and he would be the likely candidate for that. Since it is a medical thing though, many times it's never really announced ahead of time because it involves health, which is a HIPAA thing.

There is a lot to be said about Bryan Mullin’s “first you build the culture” philosophy. It encompasses several things. It means recruiting good kids with a moral compass, and creating a family atmosphere and comradery among the team members. I had a conversation with Carlton Fay’s parents several years ago, when he was a senior. He wanted to transfer out of the program, you all can probably guess why, but his parents wouldn’t let him, they told him he made a commitment to the coach and he was sticking to it. I don’t think it is luck of the draw that SIU has come through the transfer portal nonsense relatively unscathed under BM. Go Dawgs.

I believe you hit the nail on the head when you parents told him you made a commitment how many parents do that today unfortunately to many parents think their son is the best and that the future is all rainbows and it's the coach's fault need more parents like the Fay's today more than ever
