Mullins tweeted congrats to graduates in the program and mentioned Harvey among them, FWIW. Makes sense considering he’s been in college four years now.
Still pretty wild how little coverage/reporting there’s been about off-season developments in the program.
I still think there is a decent chance that he is done playing basketball and we just haven't been told yet. Our local media coverage is pathetic. Noone is there to ask any questions.
The Southern is now owned by a big outfit and the paper is now printed in St. Lou. Also, IMO siusalukis.com is not as thorough as they used to be, other than covering individual games.
We were discussing this with another thread…we need someone like Paul Oren to start a subscription service covering the Salukis. It’s pretty obvious at this point that the coverage isn’t getting better anytime soon. They may be hamstrung by the parent company with getting anyone hired, but it really is sad they can’t do better.
IF we don’t sign a big, or a big power forward, and IF Cade Hornecker can put on >15 lb. over the summer I can see him playing this year. If either Muila or Ebube get in foul trouble, which I suspect will happen, we will be in a bit of a pickle. Hornecker is a good passer and decent free throw shooter, as well as being 7’ tall.

I hope Steven has made a great choice going to Weber. I would have liked his arsenal to help SIU this coming year. He wasn't great in his time with us but always someone reliable when LJ was down, in foul trouble, or shooting poorly (those few games). Glad you could be a Saluki.
Thanks SalukiWorld for more reliable info. I hadn't seen this on twitter.
Verplancken to Weber State
Weber State is awesome, their cheerleading team has won something like 5 straight national championships. Im not sure how good the rest of their sports are though. lol

I just know Weber State because of Damian Lillard

Article on Verplancken from a Weber State perspective:
“I wanted to make it work there. I have a great support staff, I love my team and it’s a great place. But on the court it was just hard, I didn’t feel like I could be myself,” Verplancken explained. “I’m a team player but at the same time, I only have two more years left so I kind of made the decision that I want to go somewhere that’s a better fit, X’s and O’s wise.”
That’s where Weber State hit home. One of the staples of recruiting visits to WSU is a film session where coaches show a player exactly how they fit on the court and why their skills will be magnified in Ogden. Given his shooting touch and the season he had at Glenville State, Verplancken feels there’s plenty more to his game that wasn’t brought out with the Salukis.
“I want to be more involved as a playmaker, in playmaking and decision-making. I want to get back to that groove; I think I need that to be the kind of player I want to be,” he said.
Nothing against Steven and I hope he has success in the future but to me this is what is wrong with the portal it seems to me that players today just seem to always look for a better chance instead of fighting thru a little adversity. I am sure these conversations go on their roles and future with the program they are involved with so they know what is expected of them and how they will be used sometimes I guess they don't like the answer

I honestly don't think Verplanken was good enough to be "the player he wants to be" in the MVC. He was in a groove at the D2 level, but I don't think that the system here was his problem. He was a decent role player with a few really good games. Lower level competition will benefit him if this is what he is looking for.
Some nice words from Verplanken. I hope he does well.
Like all of the players that Mullins & Co. recruit, Steven is a good person, best of luck to him.

I thought Verplancken could have been utilized more. Whether some of that was tentativeness by him or just the system SIU runs. Verplancken was the 2nd best 3 point shooter on the team by percentage but took the 4th most 3’s. Felt like he should have been shooting more given how inept the offense was at times.
He probably has to sit out the year this upcoming year so will be interesting to see how he comes out in 2023-24.
@salukiworld he could play this season if he asks for and receives a waiver don't have any reason to believe that Mullins wouldn't grant that request
