Mullins plays things pretty close to the vest, per the usual, but says he is expecting less roster turnover this offseason than for his first two teams and expressed optimism about Muila making an impact going forward.
Great interview, but I would expect no less.

I take his optimism with a grain of salt. Every recruit that comes in, the staff has nothing but glowing words to say about them. Go ahead and read what he said about Butler and Long coming in. What I'd like to know is, how much was JD Muila actually able to practice with the team prior to injury. Other than his mouth watering Juco ranking, has anyone seen him practice or play (including the coaches)? I ask this because, IF HEALTHY and IF he lives up to expectations, this team could immediately move from a 9th place team to a 7th or even 6th place team. And then, if you add in the RIGHT transfers, you are looking at a potential top half finish in the Valley. I have learned my lesson though and will wait to see the players actually PLAY games at the Div 1 level prior to gettting too hyped up. That being said, I am excited about this offseason and hearing about the potential improvements.
@insaluki Muila injury occured at the beginning of November. He had full summer of workouts and several weeks of full practices with the team before the injury. Word was they really liked what they saw!

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you !! I took a look at his soph season videos and really liked his athleticism, speed, quickness, etc. The biggest thing might be the defense he will be able to provide the team, one that was somewhat lacking in years past. I wonder how they'll use him.... as the 5? 4? Probably a little bit of both. It stinks that he lost these months of development, but I have a feeling this team and its players are going to work HARDER this offseason than normal in order to come back ready in the fall.

I would argue with Domask not getting hurt, we were already at least a 6th/7th MVC team last year. There were multiple close losses that I feel he would easily have affected the outcome of the game. If Muila was healthy and lived up to expectations, I'd expect a better finish than that.
Now we can add in a few teams rosters blowing up at the moment near the bottom of the conference for next season. Who knows what to expect, but were easily better than a 9th place team next year already.

I'm guessing they'd have Muila guard the better offensive big compared to Filewich. Filewich really struggled against Prim and Krutwig this season on the defensive end.
@insaluki He's definitely a 5. He doesn't have much range at this point. He's a back to the basket guy, with nice post moves, but his defense and rebounding are what really stands out. He will not be a prolific scorer. If he plays 25 minutes a game I would project him as a 6 point, 8 rebound guy with a block or two. Also, you won't see valley guards and wings successfully drive as much when he is in the game as he is a much better rim protector then Filewich. It think he an Filewich can compliment each other well. Filewich is more of a scorer, and a very good passer, but is not a prolific rebounder and gets beat on the block quite a bit at this point.
It’ll be really interesting to see how much this team improves in the weight room by next season. This team can improve lot if certain players bulk up.
I could see a depth chart at the beginning of the year of
Filewich-Ebube-Dembele
Muila-D'Amico
Domask-Verplancken
Jones-Harvey-Wonders
Banks-Brown-Butler(if he returns)

Muila won't play the 4. He is a center. 2 of the players you mentioned won't be back. If D'Avanzo returns he and D'Amico will play the 4, with Domask probably getting some time there too, if we don't sign an athletic transfer who can play the 4. Hopefully we do sign an athletic transfer that can play the 4 so Domask plays most, if not all of his time at the 3.
I envision Filewich and Muila being interchangeable on the court.

On the defensive end, I envision Muila guarding the tougher big like a Gaige Prim

I just don't think we will see Filewich and Muila playing together. That's a pretty offensively challenged unit for the stuff Bryan likes to run.
For starters, we really like the high-low action. That won't work so well with the two of them playing together as I don't believe defenses will respect their ability to score beyond about 5 feet from the basket. Allowing the defense to pack in would also make driving lanes pretty tough for both Jones and Banks, particularly when trying to finish at the rim.
--Insert something witty here--
Speaking of Muila, Jones, and Domask, anyone have updated injury information on these guys?
Hoping their respective recoveries are going well.
March on triumphantly!
