Poster on the Loyola board said that the Ramblers won 92-64
The most concerning thing about this is the 92 points given up...that is not how a BM coached defense plays. I know XJ and Clarence haven't played much this fall and D'Amico and Cade are out, but sheesh. If they are going to give up those numbers it could be a long year.
I keep telling myself, these scrimmages mean nothing...they mean nothing.
They don't mean anything......................until they do. Losing by, and giving up, that much should indeed be cause for concern. Just glad I'm finding this out before my annual $$$$ college basketball draft, which starts tomorrow. SIU gave me 23 wins in the 9th round last year which was great. I had them at 18 but now figuring closer to 14-16.

You would think, with XJ back as an all-defensive team guy and plenty of length and athleticism on the roster, that this should be a good defensive team, probably even moreso than usual under Mullins. Agree that giving up that many points is a bad thing, to state the obvious, but let’s see how it looks with more of a sample size.
A friend's son, who still works for SIU, told him that we will be lucky to get 8th or 9th place. Said this team looks horrible. Great. 😥
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
I’m ready for this to be rebranded as a “rebuilding year” in year 5 of Mullins after 4 years of nothing. Hinson didn’t get that type of leash and Bryan shouldn’t either. I’ll keep pointing to Indiana State losing Courvoisier McCauley and Cooper Neese but they’re extremely likely to be better than SIU this year because they were able to get good players via the portal that will help them right away.
The 2024 HS Class is dead as of now too so there’s nothing to look forward to there. Jerrance Howard was a huge hire back in March and I haven’t heard from him since.

Hinson might not have gotten that type of leash on the message boards but he did get seven years from the university.
Agree that the lack of tangible recruiting traction from the staff with Howard onboard as we near the fall signing period is, to this point, a large disappointment, and won't help Mullins' cause if this season doesn't go well.
Hinson got an extension after his 4th season where he went 22-10 that Mullins hasn’t received yet after his 23-10 season. Although Hefferlump revealed 10 games into Barry’s 5th season that he quietly got a 2 year extension in the offseason.
Hinson inherited a mess when Lowery left. Hinson also was here when SIU leadership at most levels were a disaster. I am afraid that this season is going to be a HUGE disappointment for those that think this isn’t a rebuild. I am extremely concerned about the state of SIU Basketball. I am trying to be optimistic but unfortunately I haven’t heard anything that supports that from people close to the program. On a positive note there are upgrades for the Banterra center coming including new score boards.
As bad as things seem to be under Mullins, and the more I hear/read the worse it gets, the question is, who could they bring in at 'that' salary level who could revive the program?

I don't think SIU will have any problem attracting good candidates. Whether it's Big Ten/SEC assistants, lower level head coaches, JUCO coaches, etc. The Missouri Valley is an attractive conference for coaches and Chancellor Lane has shown that he wants the basketball program to thrive.
I have names in mind already but I don't think it's fair to Bryan to head in that direction yet. I'm 100% willing to give him and the team a chance this year.
I do not care about a lower division school on the schedule it is better than a quad 4 loss which hurts the Net rankings and with all of the power 5 conferences changing you better get used to weaker scheduling because they aren't going to play mid majors anymoreI’d like the mid-majors to do their own thing at this point and tell the BIG MONEY conferences to go play with themselves….literally. They’re ruining college athletics, so let them wallow in the ensuing shit show.Because there is no excuse for ever playing a non D1 school.
There are almost 400 D1 programs.
Any school that willingly schedules a non-D1 school should be ineligible for the post season and their share of tournament money for the first offense.
If you do it again, program Death penalty.
This embarrassment has to stop.
Bailiff... whack their pee-pees!
After attending tonight's scrimmage, it's still hard to get a read on this team. Hornecker, Xavier, & D'Amico all have varying injuries. Rupert was rumored to be hurt, but played. AJ Ferguson appears to have put on muscle and his shot looks really good. Kennard Davis and RJ McGee looked promising, as well. Hensley will be a nice addition, if he's eligible. Hopefully, we can get healthy and gel as a team. Until then, we're going to struggle.

Thank you VERY much for the update. About what I thought. Going to be a rough year but HOPEFUL that there are some positives for the future, IF the decent players (Davis, etc) don't leave for greener pastures. Trying so hard NOT to get too low after what I thought was a promising offseason, but with limited info on fall signees (if any) and not promising information coming from scrimmage(s) and/or practices, it's hard not to.
Let's see how we do when we have a full compliment of players. I was at the practice and the info I got was that D'Amico, Hornecker and X all didn't play in the first scrimmage against Loyola. X and D'Amico said they were playing this weekend against Western Kentucky even though they still weren't participating in contact drills in practice yesterday. Still neither will be 100% to start the season. Hornecker's injury appears to be longer term and could jeopardize his season. FWIW, I liked what I saw from Ferguson, Davis and McGee in the practice. After attending tonight's scrimmage, it's still hard to get a read on this team. If you changed the coach's last name to anyone outside of Mullins, they would already be on the hot seat, if not on their way out the door. The fact that we have significantly regressed and it's now year 5 is beyond frustrating and unacceptable. I, like 90+% of us, wanted Mullins to succeed in the worst way, but we're at a point now where if it doesn't happen this season, it just doesn't seem likely that it will anytime soon under this staff. They just can't seem to recruit any REAL difference makers in the portal when so many other mid majors are getting significant former Power 5 transfers.
