Whether Western Kentucky finishes second, sixth or tenth, it’s pretty clear this weekend was a big improvement for Southern from the Loyola scrimmage. Good news.

I don't mean this to sound like some big kumbaya thing, but the constant complaining on here is getting kind of old. critiques are fair but if you are going to critique I would love some basketball points to back it up.  Simply saying hey Domask going to ILL and playing is a bad look for Mullins is so simplistic.  Do you know how many players transfer up and play and their previous team did not achieve amazing things?  Domask is a big bodied, tough player who can shoot the 3, of course he can play in the BIG 10... It does not mean that SIU somehow failed.  Did ILL ST under achieve because Reeves went and started at Kentucky?  It's just cherry picking.  The fact is this, Drake was better than everyone by quite a bit and it comes down to winning the Valley tournament.

Excellent points. Thank you for sharing.

For some reason some folks have a real issue with Coach Mullins. He represents our university, and his Alma Mater with the upmost class and dignity. We're very fortunate to have him at SIU. Much like Coach Hill, he loves SIU and wants to be here.

One week away from the opener. Looking forward to it.

GO DAWGS!!!

OK, I would consider myself a strong Mullins supporter and have advocated multiple times here for giving him plenty of time based on everything he brings to the table, but seriously? "For some reason ..." ?

SIU has not made the postseason since 2008, including Bryan's first four years, and are now picked 9th in the MVC preseason in his fifth season. It's not a freakin' mystery why there is some restlessness. 😆

I’ll go the preseason game this weekend, but I’ll just tell ya right now, the first person who I overhear talking about MD and/or LJ, I am liable to either…

1. quickly shout at them to stfu (to which I will profusely apologize and offer to buy them a beer two seconds later)

OR

2. fall to the floor and cry

OR

3. make a bee line for the nearest exit, get in the car, and drive home

You don’t agree that having two Big Ten-caliber starters on your roster for 4 years and not making a single postseason tournament is an indictment that the coaching staff underperformed?

That seems like a pretty obvious fact to me.

None of what you said matters when it comes to wins and losses, which, for better or worse, is how coaches are judged.

I’m down on the current team but I’m willing to give the staff and team a chance but if things go poorly, I’m not gonna be holding back.  5 years is long enough to put together a team capable of making a postseason tournament.  SIU isn’t Gonzaga but the resources are there when it comes to the Missouri Valley and the program is a high priority for the chancellor.  There’s no excuses for any SIU team to be bad when the transfer portal exists.

I'm not saying it all has to be sunshine and rainbows but sometimes it seems the weight of the last 15 years falls on one team.  I get it, I have been there and I am frustrated too, but this team doesn't bare the cross for any other team and especially not the program over the last decade plus and this staff doesn't bare the cross for the previous 15 years either, just the last 4 and taking away COVID/Domask injury year they've been otherwise extremely competitive.

They were not as good as their record in regards to metrics last year too.  The metrics say 2021 was their best season in the 4 years so far.

I would give 2020 an asterisk because at the time of the Domask injury the Dawgs were 7 and 0 and had just beat Butler at Butler

Metrics suck.  I'm sorry, winning matters. can't convince me 7 more wins and 5 more in the MVC isn't a better team.  Sometimes metrics can't measure winning basketball.

The only metric that matters in the end.

Looks like in 4 years siu is 38-36 in mvc play. That has to get better. The 1st step is to be great in your conference.  That is something that can be achieved at siu I think and should be expected. Let's see what this season brings, if they struggle in conference play after 5 years of this staff, I'm not sure what AD will do
