I'm not generally a troller of other fans' message boards, but the Butler board deserves some trolling. Pregame talk was all about how we were "pretty good" for a few years, and how this game would be good for a lowly school/conference like ours. OK, sure: you guys have definitely come up in the world, and we have fallen down, and things do change. But come on:
You guys were in the effing HORIZON LEAGUE when we played you in the last meaningful games! Quit acting as though you're freaking UCLA in the '60s.
Well, I guess they got it stuck up their ass tonight then. Didn't they? 🤣
I wasn't able to watch this one, so all I have is stats to go on.
I have to say this is one of those games that, when you look at the box score, you wonder: How the eff did we win this one? And to me, that is yet another sign of a good team with good coaching: intangibles. Good teams with good coaching can pull out a win despite what the stats might say.
There have already been a good number of these during the brief Mullins era. The previous one? Not so much. Telling.

Filewich only had 2 points but he got some key RBs and had a nice block while playing some good D in what I want to say will be his most minute so far.
Brown and Domask were great but Filewich was seriously the unsung hero in the first half. So many huge minutes, especially on the defensive end.
He also had the most awkward spin move I have ever seen late in the game lol. Like, he basically had a straight line to the hoop after but was so shocked that move worked he just passed it off.
Can Filewich dunk ? I have yet to see it. He's going to REALLY need to work on his FT shooting the next couple of years, but he has shown so much improvement already in just 6 games. I bet he'd kick Garza's butt......... okay just messing around but still. Great job !!!

Yes, they sure did. I also got a kick out of how there were all sorts of posts of the A.J. Green buzzer-beater and so few (i.e., none) of our taking them down at their place the year before (2007) when the game actually mattered.
Fortunately, I'm not a troll. But I thought about becoming one tonight. There is a serious case of WSU-ism over there.

Hey - none of you need to be picking on Kyle! He's an f'ing FRESHMAN and has so far given us great minutes on both sides of the floor! He's a beast in the making as far as I'm concerned. You go, Kyle! Keep kickin' azz! We love ya!
If you're gonna reply to me in the forums, please quote what I wrote that you're replying to so I have a clue...thanks! 😀

Who said anything bad about him. He is going to be a beast

This stuff is fun from Filewich. Just wait until he has a full offseason to hit the weight room. I think it's unfair to put Krutwig comparisons on him but he's similar to Krutwig in that both were very good early before they were able to hit the weight room and become more athletic.
@austinsaluki we shot the lights out. almost 55% from the field 47.4 from 3. We also played mostly good defense and took care of the ball (10 turnovers) Wish we could rebound, this is going to kill us one day. Almost changed the outcome last night. Giving up 10 offensive boards is not good
Still, 76 points, never thought I'd see SIU do that again.

Here's hoping Bryan Mullins becomes our Brad Stevens. With a name like that, Mullins would be a good fit to coach the Celtics in another decade. 😀
I would think 10 years is not nearly long enough for us to enjoy Mullins. I want him to become the Mike K. of SIU Basketball. I want to see the court named after him. THEN the Celtics can have him.

Man I love listening to Reis get excited over the Dawgs. He makes the game so much more fun. He sounds like the Reis we were listening to when Bryan Mullins was playing.
Rough 2nd half that turned into a nail biter. Glad we got the win in spite of the refs trying to exert their will on this game.
F### AJ Graves and go Dawgs it's going to be a fun year!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. I don't think I've ever complained about officiating on this site....ever. But the refs certainly tried their best to keep Butler in the game and keep their home winning streak alive. They got away with multiple travels, fouls, etc. in the final minutes. This game should never have been that close. We dominated them on their home court. Great win.
This. That was a pathetic performance by the refs the last 4-5 minutes of the game. Had that game been on a neutral court we win comfortably.
It’s too bad this is a COVID year, the Arena would be ROCKIN for conference season

You are exactly right. We would have 7000+ at the next home game, no matter who it was.
Wasn't that the second time that the opposing team won the opening tip and Ben Harvey snagged the ball away? That's either great coaching or great instincts on Harvey's end. Maybe it's a little of both... 😀
