SIU was a severe underdog in last night's game so no need to be upset with the expected loss, BUT if you think that watching ONE AND ONLY ONE player continually get the ball to end games is the best plan, then I don't know what to tell you. Every other coach in basketball basically KNOWS what SIU is going to do at the end of a game and that is why the success rate is so incredibly low. The definition of insanity is trying to do the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
We have 7 games left and I have them going 3-4, although wouldn't be the least bit surprised at 4-3 or 2-5. Still looking like a middle of the pack finish relying on matchups to advance in the MVC tourny.
Not at all happy with the result, especially the weak finish. But, looking at the box score, the Salukis pretty much outperformed Drake. Obviously the officiating and disproportionate fouls called on SIU was the difference. And yes, we missed WAY too many WIDE-open threes. One stat that got my attention was the 3600 attendance. Sorry Drake, that is really lame.
The MVC really needs to do a scrub on these officials. Even my wife, who is not much of an intense hoops fan, goes crazy on those various awful calls.
March on triumphantly!
We are tied for 4th and play UNI at home the last game. We have an absolutely solid chance at finishing 4th and avoiding Thursday.SIU was a severe underdog in last night's game so no need to be upset with the expected loss, BUT if you think that watching ONE AND ONLY ONE player continually get the ball to end games is the best plan, then I don't know what to tell you. @maroonloon Agree with the missing wide open three’s. Even though Davis and D’Amico hit one big three each, the fact they missed ten others, many wide, wide open, really hurt.
Did anyone else who watched the game on ESPN+ have issues with the feed. Ours kept jumping back and forward throughout the game although I could only watch the second half due to a conflict. I checked a couple of other games on ESPN+ that were playing at the same time, and did not have this issue. We have been having wi-fi issue lately so I am wondering if it is only us.

Did not have that issue with the ESPN+ feed. As far as the broadcast, usually I think Adam Emmenecker does a very good job with his analysis but he was rationalizing a lot of very weak foul calls last night.
And as as far as the too many missed wide-open 3s from Davis and D'Amico ... yup. I was glad that Davis still had the confidence to take (and make) a huge tying one late. Still think he has big upside and would very much like to see that play out in Carbondale, but he's got some work to do on his offensive game this offseason.

It’s a 3 team conference. SIU is 0-4 right now against the top 3 and 0-5 against the top 5 which has been an unfortunate theme the last 5 years
I really enjoyed the game last. Thought the effort , coaching, and execution was good. Everyone in the place knows what siu is going to do in late game situations, I would try some different stuff but that's his decision to make. Unfortunately it hasn't worked out. This season would be much better if it did. But in the end a huge opportunity was missed. Drake was down 2 starters and we lost. It's fun to talk about how well siu played and gives everyone some hope for rest of season . Hopefully this is a little boost for rest of season to get that 4th place seed
@siudawgs Thanks for the info on the ESPN+ feed. It is probably our wi-fi again.
I am also excited about Davis and hopefully his future with the Dawgs. I would like to see more of the players shoot open pull-up 10-12-15 foot jump shots than always settle for three’s or taking it to the rim for highly contested layups. I have seen some of them do it, but not often enough. I don’t remember Davis ever doing this, but if he did, it was not very often. He is a very tough defender.
Certainly enjoyed the effort, determination, and toughness displayed last night. Took a very good team to OT, on their home court, topped with absolutely brutal officiating. DeVries being allowed to talk to the officials is 100% wrong. Favoritism was on full display IMO. I sincerely hope things even out at the tournament.
When Big C fouled out, I believe with a little over 4 minutes remaining, that it was indeed Scottie time. From my observations, the kid provides a much needed spark whenever he subs in. Tips, blocks, steals, boards, powerful dunks and inside play. Made a few free throws as well. Perhaps he's going to be the secret weapon for MVC Tourney? Truly bummed about Hensley, it seems as though he has lost some confidence.
Our inbounds plays need to be disposed of. Screens need to take place, and better execution with correct players on the floor. Perhaps use X as a decoy, and let someone else handle and take that last shot? Very similar to watching Domask back into the lane for the fade, or up and under. Again, maybe some changes will be made in time for the tournament?
With the above being said, I would like to add this. It is quite depressing to see some folks ( hide under a false name ) vent their frustrations via social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and sports message boards have become a rallying point to bash our coach, or particular players after a loss. IMO it casts another lousy image on our beloved alma mater. Embarrassing to say the least, but some folks continue to use these media outlets for their bitterness. Yours truly wants nothing more to see SIU Basketball back in the limelight, it's been way too long. However, it does no one any good to display this atrocious behavior.
GO DAWGS!!!
BEAT THE REDTURDS!!!
I agree. I saw Goro's comment on here on how he was "educating the koolaid drinkers" (I'm paraphrasing) on Facebook. I read the FB thread including his comments and I beg to differ. In my opinion he came off as a condescending know it all. I'm fine with differing opinions, that's what fan forums are all about. However, calling people out and belittling knowledgeable fans just because they are supportive of the team and the coach is juvenile. Stating your opinion and the facts behind your opinion no matter what your opinion is are all within the bounds of decency in my opinion. Condescending and being holier than thou because you think you are gods gift to analytics is not a good look. Again, all my personal opinion and you are more than welcome to disagree, respectfully.Certainly enjoyed the effort, determination, and toughness displayed last night. We now know SIU can beat both Drake and Bradley so come Arch Madness have to hope for someone to knock out Indiana State.
Don't be a D Bag. No one is happy we lost. We are just talking about the game.Don't worry guys we were projected to lose by 9 and only lost by 4. That's considered successful for a few people here
It's not that serious lol just giving a few a hard time. We played fine, still frustrating that we have these same end of game struggles in year 5 but it is what it is
I thought it was funny. Some people on here can't take a joke (or any form of criticism).
We do have a chance at 4th but there isn't a single game left on the schedule that you can pencil in as a W after the Illinois St home game. I am still estimating a 5th - 7th finish, but hopeful for 4th.

your wife watches the saluki games with you? she screams at the tv? if she ever decides to leave you, send her my way.
At what point does complacency set in and people remain happy that we're not going to the postseason (again) unless we see a run in St. Louis?!? I just get tired of watching the same rah-rah posters who remain blissfully committed to the team's results, no matter that there's still no NIT or NCAA tourney in sight.I agree. As for my FB post, it was in reaction to one of those rah-rah posters who a few weeks ago on FB posted a pic of Mullins and his brother on a huge billlboard, demanding that Bryan deserves a contract extension, and my basic reply is... well, for what exactly?
In his five years, he's still not reached an NIT or NCAA tourney, and if the Salukis don't reach the MVC semis, his record in St Louis will actually be worse than Barry Hinson's (Barry's teams made it to two MVC semis in his first five years).
And we all here remember how Barry was raked over the coals at that time for not producing... yet for whatever reason, some of that same fan base are trying to laud Bryan's results, when they're practically a mirror image of results. Is is just because he played basketball here?
Maybe it's grumbling from a lifelong fan, but I'm tired of watching another likely year go by without any meaningful postseason featuring our Dawgs... it's been 17(!) years since we last saw their name mentioned on Selection Sunday, and unless a miracle happens in St. Louis, we're gonna watch another Selection Sunday show where SIU once again is absent.
