Cosign. Well said Goro, well said.At what point does complacency set in and people remain happy that we're not going to the postseason (again) unless we see a run in St. Louis?!? I just get tired of watching the same rah-rah posters who remain blissfully committed to the team's results, no matter that there's still no NIT or NCAA tourney in sight.I agree. I saw Goro's comment on here on how he was "educating the koolaid drinkers" (I'm paraphrasing) on Facebook. I read the FB thread including his comments and I beg to differ. In my opinion he came off as a condescending know it all. I'm fine with differing opinions, that's what fan forums are all about. However, calling people out and belittling knowledgeable fans just because they are supportive of the team and the coach is juvenile. Stating your opinion and the facts behind your opinion no matter what your opinion is are all within the bounds of decency in my opinion. Condescending and being holier than thou because you think you are gods gift to analytics is not a good look. Again, all my personal opinion and you are more than welcome to disagree, respectfully.Certainly enjoyed the effort, determination, and toughness displayed last night. Took a very good team to OT, on their home court, topped with absolutely brutal officiating. DeVries being allowed to talk to the officials is 100% wrong. Favoritism was on full display IMO. I sincerely hope things even out at the tournament.
When Big C fouled out, I believe with a little over 4 minutes remaining, that it was indeed Scottie time. From my observations, the kid provides a much needed spark whenever he subs in. Tips, blocks, steals, boards, powerful dunks and inside play. Made a few free throws as well. Perhaps he's going to be the secret weapon for MVC Tourney? Truly bummed about Hensley, it seems as though he has lost some confidence.
Our inbounds plays need to be disposed of. Screens need to take place, and better execution with correct players on the floor. Perhaps use X as a decoy, and let someone else handle and take that last shot? Very similar to watching Domask back into the lane for the fade, or up and under. Again, maybe some changes will be made in time for the tournament?
With the above being said, I would like to add this. It is quite depressing to see some folks ( hide under a false name ) vent their frustrations via social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and sports message boards have become a rallying point to bash our coach, or particular players after a loss. IMO it casts another lousy image on our beloved alma mater. Embarrassing to say the least, but some folks continue to use these media outlets for their bitterness. Yours truly wants nothing more to see SIU Basketball back in the limelight, it's been way too long. However, it does no one any good to display this atrocious behavior.

As for my FB post, it was in reaction to one of those rah-rah posters who a few weeks ago on FB posted a pic of Mullins and his brother on a huge billlboard, demanding that Bryan deserves a contract extension, and my basic reply is... well, for what exactly?
In his five years, he's still not reached an NIT or NCAA tourney, and if the Salukis don't reach the MVC semis, his record in St Louis will actually be worse than Barry Hinson's (Barry's teams made it to two MVC semis in his first five years).
And we all here remember how Barry was raked over the coals at that time for not producing... yet for whatever reason, some of that same fan base are trying to laud Bryan's results, when they're practically a mirror image of results. Is is just because he played basketball here?
Maybe it's grumbling from a lifelong fan, but I'm tired of watching another likely year go by without any meaningful postseason featuring our Dawgs... it's been 17(!) years since we last saw their name mentioned on Selection Sunday, and unless a miracle happens in St. Louis, we're gonna watch another Selection Sunday show where SIU once again is absent.

At what point does everyone realize that outside of an outlier year here and there no MVC team is going to the tournament without winning in St. Louis? Should Drake fire their coach? You guys would have Ben Jacobson on the hot seat at this point.

Lol. DeVries and Jacobson have both been to multiple NCAA tournaments. Mullins hasn't even come close. Do not compare them
Since SIU's last postseason appearance (the 2008 NIT), Ben Jacobson's coached his teams to 4 NCAA tourneys and 2 NITs (there's also 2 CIT appearances, but those are pay-to-play so we'll not count 'em.)At what point does complacency set in and people remain happy that we're not going to the postseason (again) unless we see a run in St. Louis?!? That makes 6 noteworthy postseason appearances for his UNI team since SIU last went to one... should he be on the hot seat for not taking a team back to the NCAA since 2016? You'll have to ask UNI fans that question, but I'd much rather have 4 NCAA and 2 NIT berths since 2008 than zip.
As for Drake... what, really? You want to bring up a team that's been to the NCAA tourney twice in just the past three years? Why would Drake fire their coach at ALL? That's a terrible comparison there, as they're already in NIT at-large territory this season should they fall short of the NCAA. And again, we've not even BEEN in the NIT since 2008.
Goro posting and it's not during or directly after a basketball game?!!! 😊
I certainly did not mean to ruffle any feathers. I honestly did not know of your post on Facebook. My complaint is with those folks who after a game, or in some cases during a game use profanity to voice their displeasure, some on this very site. Or they go to social media outlets and in bold print (scream) fire Mullins. That IMO is disgraceful and shameful and most certainly cast a dark cloud over our university and overall fanbase. I believe folks can vent their frustrations in a more mature and respectful manner, without the need to use social media. It does more harm to the overall picture, than good. Again, IMO.
When you speak of the former coach, and add comparisons, ponder this: I believe that coach was given 7 years to win that coveted trip to the NCAA's and failed. At this point he had accumulated 20 years of Head coaching experience, with seven seniors on the roster, but was unable to do so. I did however hear he whipped up some darn good BBQ sauce.
I would absolutely love to see our Salukis back in the dance, or NIT. However, it's not that easy to accomplish. 23-10 last season. If a Power 5 school has the same record, that's most certainly a #3 or #4 seed in The Dance. Right? Margin of error is extremely thin for a Mid Major.
GO DAWGS!!!
BEAT THOSE TURDS!!!
SIU went..
2-7 vs the top 4 in 2019-20
0-9 vs the top 4 in 2020-21
1-10 vs the top 5 in 2021-22
2-4 vs the top 4 in 2022-23
0-4 vs the top 4 in 2023-24
Combined: 5-34
Against all other MVC teams, SIU is 40-8 in this span
Yep, it's rare that I pop up on a day where there's no hoops action, but it's a slow day here at home... 😉Goro posting and it's not during or directly after a basketball game?!!! 😊

One comment on that 23-10 mark last year... SIU's overall stats would've been more than enough for an NIT bid had the tried-and-true RPI metric still been the premier ranking, but we all know the rest of the story on this one. The bigwigs created their own NET metric to push out any last semblance of nonpartisanship, and the results since then have only made it incredibly difficult for anyone outside of the Big 6 to get a fair shake.
Heck, even the Mountain West this year's getting royally screwed with eventual seed lines, as right now they've got FOUR teams in the top 13 of the RPI, but in the NET, their top-ranked team only ranks 18th, and nobody is currently projected to even be in a top-4 seed line for the NCAA tourney.
With the RPI stats that league's got right now, if a Big 6 conference had those same results, you're looking at all four of those teams in no worse than a #4 seed, yet the Mountain West is getting screwed over only because they're named the Mountain West. They're well ahead of the Pac-12 this year in talent, yet even then, the MWC only ranks 7th overall in the NET, behind the Pac-12?
And then there's the horrid NIT deal this year where that particular selection committee has the rule in place to select AT LEAST two teams from each of the Power 6 conferences, with no consideration that the Mountain West is clearly outperforming not only the Pac-12, but they're probably on a par with both the Big East and ACC this season. Yet you don't see the NIT committee guaranteeing two berths for MWC teams, no matter the talent... again, only because they're not considered a Power conference.
Look... you've got me all riled up now, and we're still a good month away from all this tourney at-large talk... it's too early for a rant! 😉
I know this is morbid, but think about it this way. Many of us on the board are older................it's been 15 years since we last played in a post season tournament. In another 15 years, many of us will either not be around to enjoy Saluki hoops or will be too old to remember "the good old days".
I see LOTS of excuses being thrown out there, but if other Mid Majors can consistently make the NCAA or NIT, then so can we. The numbers tell us that the current staff is not significantly better than the last staff and the only reason Mullins gets a pass is because he is liked (and a former player).
Again, I don't care who the coach is anymore, I just want to win. It's really that simple.....and I do NOT want to wait ANOTHER 5+ years for it to happen.

Put me in the "morbid" category also. I turn 65 in four months and one of my wishes is to see the Salukis play in at least one more NCAA tournament during my lifetime. I know exactly how you and like-minded SIU fans feel.
@the-bobber Ha! No doubt she has probably considered ditching me over the years. 🤣 I will pass this along to her. She will definitely get a kick out of it. She is also a good-looking SIU alum and just loves all things Saluki and beer. No brainer.
March on triumphantly!
