The only one who played a complete game was Domask. Jones woke up the second half. The rest of them were non-factors the whole game. Props to ISU, though. They shot lights out and made their free throws.
ok, i can finally talk about it now.
they shoot 60% from three, 90% from the line, and we are tied, in the final minute, on the road.
the problem to me was the 3-10 at the line, and one of those was miraculously banked in. i as the same question i asked last year and others have asked: is their no teaching going on to improve this with these guys? because if there is, nobody is listening.
90% of missed free throws are missed because they are either too long or shot too hard. and yet we have a guy launching the ball 8 feet in the air with a bunch of spin. no way it softly bounces in. it is so bad that when he makes one (of the three) the saluki bench erupts, as if they are stunned by what they have just witnessed.
it has to be addressed, or the bobber will not survive.
im failing to see why cade did not play. he has had moments and few, ok st would not be a win without his presence and clutch shots. he can also make free throws without shooting them out of the building. could have easily been the difference between a w and an l. if i was that kid id transfer out

Cade didn't play against Oklahoma State. He honestly hasn't looked ready at any point I've seen him, and it's mostly been garbage time. There's no reason for Ebube to not be getting more run though. And of course, Wonders.

Give me a break Dude. Ebube looked out of his element in the few minutes he played - the game was far too fast for him and he was getting beat on rebounds by smaller guys. Same thing I saw last time he played. Don't be overly impressed by a dunk.
Cade doesn't look like a polished upper classmen, but I sure as H would rather see his 7' frame plugging up the middle than D'Amico.
Every single one of their last 8 pts were in the paint when we had no big in the game!!! (two were FTs from a foul while Knight was putting up a bunny.) Meanwhile, Rupert, who can jump over the rim and is very quick, sat and only played 10 minutes the whole game. That's just braindead IMO. That is exactly why we lost to Indiana St. Ebube, who doesn't look any more ready than Cade, also sat at the end...only played 3 minutes. Cade of course sat.
When I've seen Cade, he looks like he can score and he's a far better shooter than any of the other bigs. He was a 73% FT shooter in high school. Hackabig won't work with him.
When I heard Reis interview BM a while back and ask about Rupert, Mullins comment was basically that he needs to improve everything. I thought his comment was very telling - he is not too sold on Rupert, which I really disagree with. Our coach needs to think out of his box and quit looking at the game through guard-colored glasses. Got a lot to learn.
I don't expect the next couple of weeks to be pleasant for Saluki fans - hope I'm wrong.

I'm all for win now at all costs right now but I think they're doing a disservice to the future of the program by not playing any of the young guys at all. Of course, it would help if they were able to blow out anyone this year. The Evansville game last week was a perfect opportunity to get young guys some run and they couldn't put that game away. Same thing with the Alcorn St, Chicago St, and SEMO games. Domask playing 39 minutes and having to score 32 points in a losing effort doesn't give me much confidence going forward if him and Jones aren't back.

I've seen every minute of Horneckers court time and I can honestly see both sides. There's moments when he's flashed salivating potential, and also moments when he's looked very uncomfortable as if a redshirt should've been his only consideration for this season. I'm really not worried about him though. He will eventually produce and produce big, IMO.
The game also looks too fast for Ebube right now, particularly with his defensive positioning/rebounding. That said, it can't be argued that he consistently produces in minuscule minutes.
I would rather see both of the above over Troy getting run at the 5, and I really like Troy. He's a valuable piece. However, as others have pointed out in detail, we consistently get beat in the paint and on the boards when he's forced out of position.
--Insert something witty here--
I like Troy too - he's a good player at the forward position. He gets eaten up by bigger guys inside.
my bad, i was thinking of the cal bap game, which if i recall we were losing or it was very close and cade came in and hit a sweet jumper on the baseline at a clutch time. id like for someone with potential that can actually shoot a ball and do basically the same as the other bigs when they are having off nights to have a chance on the court. especially since the staff burned his red shirt. the lineup and decisions from a few players at times was so frustrating at illinois state im not even looking forward to watching this next game at bradley. this team makes me bipolar. honestly i wouldnt be so critical or care if the potential wasnt there.

No point in taking the redshirt off Cade if you are not going to use him. I think Rupert's pretty good offensively around the basket, but Cade is the only big we have that can shoot an outside shot. Still remember that baseline swisher - nice form, nice touch. In a 7 fter who can also make teams think before driving the middle, that's a wasted asset.
