Marcus has struggled more than usual these past couple games at UNI and Indiana State. I think we're pretty quick on this board to jump to the fatigue angle with him whenever he doesn't look quite right - he is entitled to have a shooting slump like anyone else - but nonetheless I hope they err on the side of giving him a little more rest in practice and even in these home games against ISU and Evansville and see if that helps jump-start him, because he had been performing at a POY-type level.

Despite his relative struggles, though, he found a way to make some winning plays in Terre Haute, much to his credit.

And love to see him step to the line and make all those FTs late in the game.

The 4 free throws after the technical on Schertz completely changed the game

I also think the volume of fouls and free throws in general probably worked to Southern's advantage as Indiana State likes a more freeflowing, uptempo game and it's much harder to get in a rhythm offensively when the whistle is blowing most trips down the court. Plus they had a couple key guys in foul trouble.

Man In St message board is full of a bunch of whiny bitches 😂. Refs cost them that game evidently.

You got that right. You have a few different groups of thought:

1. The refs cost us the game.

2. We didn't respond well when the refs screwed us.

3. We need to think harder about why we are always getting screwed by the refs.

😂😂

As we were walking out after the game, some of their fans were asking us if we paid off the refs!  I told them, yeah we took the female ref out and wined her & dined her in Carbondale last weekend. 😂😂😂

I've never seen a bigger bunch of babies than Indiana State fans and players. They beat teams like East Carolina and Green Bay and then start their conference season out with the easiest teams going 6-0 and all of a sudden they think they're going to win the MVC Championship. People are mad that players and coaches talk it up with the refs in between plays and before the game starts. Someone was angry that Marcus was smiling and laughing while talking to the female ref. I don't know if anyone has noticed but the time we played ISU at home, that Courvoisier McCauley guy was talking trash to our bench the entire game (I believe it earned him a technical). The same exact thing happened last night, the constant trash talk gets old.

In fairness to the Trees, they beat Drake and of course won in Carbondale, so the 6-0 start wasn't all due to weak opposition.

Schertz seems like a whiny guy, too. He was in the officials ears all night over non-issues. We'll see how he does next year without McCauley, Gibson, Neese, and maybe Henry.

ISU's toughest stretch of the season is just starting. They may be in first now, but it wouldn't surprise me to see them lose 5 in a row, or at least 4 of 5.

These game threads have become a Stephen King-level kind of read. Haha. Just watch the games then read the threads after and somehow after beating the league leaders to pull within one game of the conference lead, 80% of us think the team sucks. As I’ve said before, this year’s team has earned the benefit of the doubt because of all their comebacks. Doesn’t mean we celebrate the bad starts. But this is a really good team. Not an absolute dumpster fire as most people seem to be labeling. Big win! Enjoy it.

It helps to cue up Manic Depression by Jimi Hendrix when reading the game threads. Volume way up.

SIU on pace for 52 points against a team that gives up 69.3 points per game

this didn’t age well. 😝

Look on Twitter, there’s an even better cold take on there. 😭😭😭😂😂😂😂

Guys don’t be bringing up jamfan’s tweets here, he’s a good guy!
I did tweet that Evansville might have to go to the OVC after last night. That thing at UE is getting UGLY.

Another thing, don’t write off UNI due to youth. Jacobsen has done a GREAT job spreading minutes on that team. He’s built up depth and experience in a short time.

Jamfan’s twitter is so embarrassing to be affiliated with SIU. I see his tweets everywhere tearing down SIU constantly no matter what. I’ve never understood why people keep watching if there’s that much hate pent up. I just always hope too many people don’t come across it.

@salukiworld

I heard yesterday that Indiana State has received over 10 T's for the season as a team, I thought that can't be right so I looked it up. Actually IF the box scores are right they have gotten 13 T's for the season including the one on their coach got Wednesday. 😱
