Play these exact same road games, run this exact same defense and offense in 2 years with players who fit the system better and you win these road games by double digits.  The system is designed to create wide open threes and it does... Problem is Suggs, Benson, McGill, Gooch, even Lance to an extent don't really fit the system perfectly.  There is  a reason we are recruiting shooters.  If we just make a couple of the wide open ones.  I am talking practice shots we are right in that game at the end.  Don't worry, you play defense like that, get Harvey next year, couple new comers get more comfortable and we will be a very good team.  I have very little doubt.  I think we need a stretch 5 though.

Agree with all of the above analysis. You miss that many wide open 3's and layups on the road, you are bound to lose. Plus, it's obvious the new guys are fatigued after 20-30 minutes, they just run out of gas. Factor in key missing players and the outcome is predictable. They did about as well as possible.

Fortunately and hopefully, with time and effort, these trouble  areas will correct themselves.

March on triumphantly!

Think about the players we recruited, that does not include Lance... I am discounting Suggs and Benson, we get Mullins was trying to find grad students to help AC and McGill to give them a shot their senior year, which was absolutely the correct move so he could not be picking.. Anyway, Domask, Francois, Brown, Harvey... All 3 very good shooters.  It has not translated yet for Francois and Brown but you see flashes.  I see flashes from both though and if we are being honest their roles should not be as big as they are.  I think Harwin and Trent both look more comfortable shooting with every passing game.  Harwin needs to work on his individual defense and defensive awareness and Trent is rarely out of position and does a good job with defense... Plus, Mullins will school them on defense.  KD is going to be a player, the kid has not had an offseason to actually work on his game in like 2 years, its unfair to even ask him to contribute this year, hes going to be fine going forward... What hurts the most is Malik ending his basketball career, man he would help this team so much.

I’ve watched the team closely this year and was at the game last night. While Brown is pretty sound fundamentally on defense, he struggles to stay in front of quicker and stronger guys (most players) and has to foul. He’s starting to remind me of Chaz Glotta.

Domask is obviously the goods. I think Jones and Francois can be helpful role players. Not sold on the other youngsters, though I’m happy to give Davis an offseason to get healthier and in better shape.

Lance Jones was impressive at points last night.  I think it’s huge for him to have his whole Freshman year learning to play point guard and it’s really going to help him going forward.  Obviously needs to develop a jump shot but he can get to the rim pretty easily and once he starts getting comfortable with finishing and drawing fouls, I think he can become a good offensive player.

I really want to see the Salukis running more plays for Domask.  He’s shooting 52% from the field and 43% from 3.  There’s no reason why he should be taking less than 10 shots a game.  Been impressed with his rebounding though the past 2 games, 10 rebounds in the Bradley game and 9 in the Loyola game.

I think if Aaron Cook comes back next year the Salukis should be looking at a redshirt for Trent Brown or a transfer if he doesn’t want to redshirt.  You go on YouTube and you can see the talent there and his sweet 3 point stroke but it’s really not translating at all to games.  There’s really no reason to fear him shooting right now because he’s playing hot potato with the basketball when it’s passed to him.  I’m not completely out on him and think he can still be a rotational player but it’s pretty clear he should have been redshirted this year, but I get why they didn’t.

I agree Karrington hasn’t been great lately but he’s shown some flashes.  I agree that Davis has looked awkward at points and it’s clear he’s not 100% trusting his body yet.  People forget that the Achilles injury he suffered is one of the worst injuries you can suffer as an athlete and it’s not a fun injury to rehab

No rocket science here: LU played good defense and we couldn't make the shots they gave us. On defense we played pretty well until the double-teaming of Krutwig took its toll and they found the open man, especially in the second half.

Have you seen the injury list ?   Good lord you have to have at least 8 healthy bodies. Christ BM is forced to play Gooch

I don't think there is ANY way Brown leaves, or should.  He is a Mullin's type guy.  His minutes have diminished from the start of the season, yet he's still the first one off the bench to cheer on the team.  That being said, I did mention prior to the season and after it started that Brown looked like he should redshirt.  The fact remains, they needed him to play.  He is getting invaluable experience.  If and when he finds his shot, he is going to be a deadly asset, even if that is not until next season.  I know a lot of people like Davis, as do I, but even when he was scoring awhile back, he didn't look fluid to me.  He, like Jones, looks rushed, especially when driving the lane and then just tossing up wild shots - although his 3pt shot looks much better than Jones.

This is all going to be different next year when they have better shooters, which will help Domask and Harvey roam on the wings as well as down low.

It's really simple.  SIU needs at least 1 big strong talented player next year to provide a presence down low and they need to find BETTER SHOOTERS.  Watching Suggs, Benson, Jones, Brown and Davis jack up 3's connecting and not seeing them go in, is beyond frustrating.  Against Loyola, I can distinctly remember at least 4 shots where the SIU player was wide open and clank after clank.  If SIU hits a couple of those 3's, it changes the game.

Whatever shooters we have are already on the team or signed. Any scholarships left will go to bigs.

Not true      there will be more changes to the roster, at least 4-5 new players added this spring. Yes we definitely need size, but guards will also be added.   We need to have some patience here, remember this roster had to be added late.  No doubt in my mind Mullins will get the job done but it will take time.  We will be better next year. We are playing with house money here. We were picked last for a reason, and that was before arguably our best player was hurt . We won’t finish last and IF we don’t play Thursday I will consider it a small miracle. Go Dawgs

I agree we need Brown. Looks like a good D player in the making. If he can start hitting the three, that would be great.

As far as Lance, guess you're feeling a different part of the elephant. Jones made a couple of awkward shots at Loyola  because he was getting body slammed, but to make a blanket statement that he looks rushed??   He's just quick as a cat and can blow by people, as he did on another beautiful,  extremely fluid drive which was greatly admired by the TV announcers. (as he often does) Also occasionally makes a beauty of a pass.

He looks rushed the same way Jamaal Tatum looked rushed when he blew by folks. When Tatum began playing a lot as sophomore, he wasn't as fluid as Jones.

Does he sometimes play out of control? Sure - he's a freshman. I personally love to watch LJ play and it's great that he's getting a lot of playing time his first year. Going to be an excellent MVC guard, especially if he can improve that jump shot.

The TV announcers made the remark that BM has a couple of excellent freshmen to build around. Completely agree with that.
