Got home from the game about an hour ago. Contrary to what we'd heard, the Racer fans seemed quite respectful and polite. No major skirmishes among the players, either. Felt like the Salukis were in control most of the game, so the crowd never really had a chance to get too excited. That Perry is a hell of a player, though. And I'd hate to see what we'd be without Domask & Jones.
No PT at all for Hornecker and limited minutes for Wonders. I don't get it. Sure his defense isn't great, but all the kid does is knock down 3-pointers every time we put him in. Nice road win, though.
Hornecker really needs to be getting all the minutes Muila is getting and a lot of the ones D'Amico is getting at the moment.
Wonders also needs to play more.
@slydawg Foster's job is literally making quick threes. That is what makes him good. I can't think of many times Foster has missed a corner 3.
I commented to my wife that Foster should have been the one shooting the last three at end of first half. For once she agreed with me!

I would put him in the game just because Foster Wonders sounds like a basketball stud.

As Mullins mentioned postgame, a big, long guard like Perry is a tough matchup for Southern, especially when they have three small guards on the floor. You’d think Newton or Ferguson (if he played) might be the better matchups.
Also a bit disappointed they couldn’t find any second half minutes for Wonders after he hit his lone 3 in the first half, and with several guys bringing very little to the table offensively. As for Hornecker, he’s hardly played if at all since Muila returned, and Ebube is back very soon, so I suspect we won’t be seeing much of him unless there are unforeseen circumstances.
A positive post since we’re nitpicking a W: SIU’s defense the first 6-8 minutes were pretty killer. The Racers couldn’t function. Reminded me a bit of the start of the UNLV game.
And the minimal turnovers kept Murray out of transition, which is probably the best thing they do. A recipe for a W.

Me and some friends made the trip as well. While everyone at Murray was polite, it was such a weird atmosphere. Every time I catch a road game, it just makes me appreciate the Banterra Center more. I think it was @dawgbytes that commented on the cheap feeling seats at SEMO. You should’ve sat in the cheap pieces of junk at Murray!! Way worse…
It was a nice win. On the road, stopped their home win streak, first time against them in conference. I see this becoming a big rivalry. I too would like to see more of Wonders and at least some of Hornecker. MD is having a great year. I hope we get to see him play next year.
Domask overtook DeVries as KenPom’s best player in the Valley. If SIU could find a way to finish ahead of Drake, I think he has a great shot at winning MVC Player of the Year
While I agree that I would prefer Hornecker to get more minutes, Muila did play good defense. He is a liability on the offensive end, but he did a good job on defense last night. It was a great second half performance to close out the game. The refs made it closer than it should have been.
I don't know why people seem suprised by The Racers antics they acted the same way when Prohm coached them before like I said previously he is an ahole and coaches this way hopefully Bmull has the Dawgs prepared for this situation and they walk away with a win
And didn't we stop playing their football team like 20 years ago because one year they broke one of our running backs' wrist on a cheap shot and the next year they got flagged for like 15 personal fouls for cheap shots?
@siudawgs exactly, I was thinking there wasn’t anyone averaging more than 4 points a game out there! Wtf
Starrick mentioned that lineup and Reis said something like ...Coach must be hoping they can keep it close - don't recall exactly, but they were noting what an anemic scoring lineup it was.
i really wish Starrick was back full time. he is so much better.
hat tip to the Saluki offense. just 4 turnovers and a ton of assists on the road. that won the game.
Craving a McBride Special!
I don't listen to too many games on the radio and like Starrick but also really like Rodney Watson. I believe Starrick is calling the Belmont game too though so another treat for people that like him.
I wouldn't trust your ticket sale source. I just looked at ticket availability on siusalukis.com and it looks like there have been approximately 3500-4k tickets sold so far. It would be great to get 7k+, but even with the ticket specials I wouldn't expect much more than 5k with the students gone.Great road win! I’ve been told that over 7,000 tickets have been sold for the Belmont game. Going to be a BIG atmosphere. An absolute must win for us. Let’s keep it going!
Regarding SIU's shooting ability, or lack thereof; going into the game SIU was shooting 33.1% on threes, after the game that had dropped to 32.1%, vs a D1 avg of 33.4%. For 2 pointers post game they were at 59.0% vs D1 avg of 49.9%, and for free throws 73.0% vs 70.7% national average. These are season-to-date numbers. I would venture to say that the +10% difference on 2 point baskets more than offsets the -1.3% on 3's. A missed three is more anguishing for the fans to watch, but it is simply incorrect to label SIU a "poor" shooting team. Source- Kenpom.com
