Year 14 of rebuilding is right on track.
Pathetic giving up 80 points. I think any chance of a postseason tournament is out the door right now, the schedule just isn't good enough the rest of the way.
Only chance we had at a postseason tournament was winning the conference even before this game.
I think winning these next two might have put them in NIT position but now they'd really just have to dominate the Valley (not happening). The truth is, this team just isn't good enough...again. And I'm not sure when they will be.
Saint Louis 85
SIU 72
Final
Johnson leads SIU scorers with 23
I like Damico, but he’s no 5. We aren’t going to win with this lineup. Zero inside scoring threat and even less rebounding. Cade should have logged heavy minutes.
Let's just face reality here. SLU is very good. Top 25 good. Maybe top 15 good. We just lost to a top 25 caliber team on the road in a hostile environment in what was a pretty close game in reality. Was within 2 around the 10-minute mark. Not sure anyone can be too upset by this loss.
Only thing that upsets me is our poor defense. I'm surprised by how we got dominated by the SLU offense. But overall, i can't be disappointed in this outcome.
I think SIU needs to A. Start recruiting guys who can score. Defense can be taught and
B. Stop relying so much on the portal, particularly grad transfers. They are rarely worth the scholarship(even Coupet, who people fawned over, was a 10 ppg guy in the Valley as a 24 year old in his 6th year of college basketball) and block the progress of younger players.
Don't recruit the JUCO ranks at all.
Yes, but as so often happens with Saluki hoops, we did an awful lot to beat ourselves.Let's just face reality here. SLU is very good. Top 25 good. Maybe top 15 good. March on triumphantly!
I don’t dislike Troy. I dislike him at the 5. Bryan Mullins and staff must be seeing something everyone else is not; SIU is flat out better with an inside presence on the floor, evidenced today by how SLU dominated the paint and destroyed us on the boards.
I just don’t get it.
Also, Lance needs to play better if SIU has any hope of reaching its potential.

SLU is not top 15 good lol they have lost twice. They competed with a good Auburn team but lost to Maryland by 30. That game was a blowout from the tip. What's their best win? A game in which the refs bailed them out against a Providence team that lost 79% of it's scoring from last year? You can be upset by this loss. It's year 4. Time to start winning big games at least occasionally
well this just sucked, have a good weekend. time to win the valley

Maryland may very well be the best team in college basketball this year. They have dominated everyone they have played. Auburn is top 15 and they played them in Auburn and lost a close fought game. I stand by my comment. SLU is top 25 at least, maybe top 15.
The loss is fine (I guess), but giving up 85 is not. SLU is very good but SIU has struggled to beat good teams constantly under Mullins. They get a good win every year (Butler, Colorado, Oklahoma State) but then go 1-9 against the top 5 of the Valley last year.
Rupert not having his best game today.
Finally, its not just me. He has not been great. Not sure why some want to bench D'Amico and play him all the time. Team is better when D'Amico is in there right now.
No F'ing way!

its not all about those stats. Making teammates better and playing good defense are also important. That is what +/- shows you. It shows you those intangible things that normal stats don't show. Game after game, not just this one, but game after game all season long, +/- has shown we are better with D'Amico on the floor than the other guys.
It's not all about the stats? But you're pointing to a bullshit stat to say we're better with a very small center? You been smoking weed? Points, rebounds, blocks are NOT stats per se - they're facts.
+/- is a questionable stat somebody made up - unless you are playing against exactly the same team at exactly the same point in the game, it's meaningless.
We're far worse with D'Amico playing very small center.
They killed us in the paint - you seriously think little TD playing the lane makes us better against a team like SLU?
His D and rebounding against their bigger guys was worthless - and he can't score and he didn't score and he didn't rebound and he didn't block a shot. He's a decent player but he should be getting some limited minutes at forward.
Mullins' insistence on being a guard only team when he actually has some talent inside is just not smart. And starting D'Amico at center - laughable - especially when we burned the redshirt of a 7 fter who has some nice offensive skills and barely gets a sniff of real game experience. Did I mention he's 7 ft tall.

Reading comprehension is your friend.
I said "those" stats.
I didn't say stats.
I also didn't say those stats didn't matter. I said it isn't all about those stats.
