Not good D by Brown there. No Jones. Ridiculous!
Would someone PLEASE tell me if Jones is hurt? I've watched the entire game and didn't see anything but he hasn't played much, if at all, in
BM said on post game that Jones missed a lot of time recently. Did not go into detail. I’m guessing he was one of the COVID cases and his minutes were limited tonight.
Hard to believe they pulled that sucker out. Congrats to the team.
Jones needs to be on the floor in crunch time. Sounds like he might not be at full speed physically, but when he is, he should be out there when it counts.
The rebounding is a problem, yes, but so is defending the rim in general. The Muila injury really stings. Hopefully Dembele finds his way into the mix, and then help is on the way next year.
Nice Saluki debuts for Harvey, Banks and D’Avanzo, who came on late. Looking forward to seeing Banks and Jones on the floor together for extended stretches.
My main takeaways for the night:
1. Jones sat the big minutes late with Brown and Banks in. Do our coaches trust those two more or did was something else going on?
2. Jones had his bright spots, but a few wild drives. But he did add in some good defense.
3. Trent Brown played good defense and hit a big 3. Can't say too must else about his night offensively except that he seems to play with more confidence this year. Is that a good thing? Time will tell.
4. We still suck at rebounding...
5. Only one game in but... Is this Domask's team or Harvey's team? If Harvey is good enough all season for that question to be asked consistently, we will be a better team than last year.
GOOD WIN TONIGHT!!
Domask's were the quietest 24pts I can remember, although the numerous FT's helped. I liked what I saw from Harvey, and it was about what I expected. Domask started slow but ended up looking good. D'Avanzo was also about what I expected. Hit a couple 3's and actually had 3 blocks. He's not your ideal or prototypical C, but he'd be a great complimentary piece if JD were able to play this year. Jones would have had a more positive impact had he played. Very eager to hear what his lack of PT in the 2nd half was all about. It was good to see Kyler in the game, getting his feet wet. Verplancken did not stand out to me. Again, goes to show you that he may have done well in practice, but games are a whole different story. And then there is the biggest surprise of the night, in Banks. He looked even FASTER than I had hoped he would be. He also was really good on the defensive side of the ball as well. And on top of that he hit his FT's and nailed a 3pt, which were 2 areas of concern. Long only played 3 minutes and didn't look very good.
In writing this up, I wonder what happened to Butler. He was supposed to be a defensive stud, yet he didn't play a single minute. Anyone know why?
Nice win with a young team with most returners being 2nd year players and HC not there.
The post still scares the crap out of me.
Korn will obviously not be at SEMO long as the performance of this team tonight shows he will get the most out of any talent he has the roster. Look for him to be at a Power 5 program within 3-4 years.

Completely forgot about Butler and am surprised he didn't play. Thought the same about Long. SIU gets Quincy on Sunday instead of Southern Mississippi on Saturday. This might benefit them a lot to see what some of the depth could do.
Listening to Brendan Mullins postgame with Reis, sounds like Jones was on a minutes limit because "he's missed a lot lately". This is what I suspected.
Dawgs aren’t coming back from this. I would love to see the second chance points stats for SEMO. I would also be shocked if they finished last in the OVC like they were picked.
Love me some crow! Gritty game by the Dawgs tonight. You could tell there was a lot of rust, especially early on. As many have already said, they have got to get the rebounding rectified. Obviously, we are going to get out rebounded a lot this year, but you can't have the deficit be 50-37 (18-4 Off Reb). SEMO got 16 more shots up as a result...don't win too many of those games.
Loved the way they played down the stretch and in OT, really gutted this one out. That's a hallmark of winning teams...so many of our previous teams would have found a way to lose tonight.
Like Harvey's set shot..reminds me of Bob Cousy!!

Glad for the win and trying to focus on the positive things. For one, FTs. Good teams and good players tend to hit them, and games are as often as not won at the line. And good FT shooting is usually a sign of a team strong in fundamentals. Tonight looks good on that front.
I'm disturbed by:
*the score: very run and gun, which seems very un-Mullins-like
*Domask playing all those minutes
*Brown still not shooting well (but probably doesn't matter, as there are clearly other options now)
*The paint
Plenty of positives though, the greatest of which is a W on the road to start the year.

I thought the defense looked good for the most part. A few lapses by the guards that let to easy baskets but thought the defense won them the game down the stretch. SEMO hit a bunch of contested shots and I think the final score is mainly reflective of not getting rebounds more than them playing poor defense.
Feeling good. Got back with a win. I’m excited to see Banks play even more. We definitely have a size issue, but these guys are gonna grind out some wins. I’m excited. I’m glad to be back here. Hopefully, we can get through this season with low cancellations and have something to look forward to in March.
