SIU is down to #120 on KenPom, down 30 spots from opening night.  SIU finished #125 last year.

That has to be wrong. Reis said we have played a much tougher schedule this year. It ranks 8th in the Valley going into the Semo game and they were 274  which will help right?

SIU is 258th in non-conference schedules now with this being the last non-con game.  Last year they played the 311th best non-con schedule so slight improvement.  Doesn't include the D2 team they played.

In Mullins 4th year.  We are now one of the older teams in the Valley  I Can’t wait for the Valley season to continue. hoping we can at least finish in the top 6 again.  After tonight’s great victory I am confident we can at least try to finish that high.

I think there's enough sample size at this point to tell everyone that this isn't a good 3 point shooting team.  They're 216th in the country in 3 point % (32.5%) but take the 5th most 3's per field goal attempt (51.0) in the country.

I'm all for taking a bunch of 3's, that's modern basketball but you need to have a team of guys that can actually make 3's for it to work.

On the flip side, SIU is 10th in the country in 2 point % (58.7%).

Hmm, that seems odd, as Reis pointed out postgame KenPom was predicting a 70-68 SIU win. We won on the road girls, take it for what it is. Onward to to the Murray State juggernaut (KenPom 170)! PS- the Cashew Chicken at China Palace was quite tasty, and Kyle has an adorable little baby boy. Merry Christmas!!!🎁

And by the way, their arena sucks!! I’ve never sat in a more uncomfortable seat (that moved forward when anyone 1-3 seats away moved forward) and just buying a bottle of water at the concession stand was an adventure in patience. Be glad that we have the good old Banterra Center. It was a great SIU crowd at the game, loud and into the game. Very entertaining.

what was most impressive was the way we closed out the game. I am not sure IF a less experienced team could of held their composure and won that game. Watch out Valley here we come. We just beat a team that held an Iowa team to 106 and then turned around and lost to E Illinois at home so this makes our Victory that much sweeter no way did I think that Semo was going to lose 7 games in a row but we did it that ending was a classic probably watch it again today it was for the ages Go Dawgs

Of course not sure anyone in the Valley can handle us now that JD is back and when we add Ebube  wow

Even though that was the most horrendous FT attempt in the history of D1 basketball, JD Muilla was a difference maker out there and I am not sure we would have won this game without him. He is playing better D than ever. Cade still looks like he is out of position and slow to react at times. Even though he is 7', he doesn't intimidate (yet) like Muilla does. When Ebube does get back, we will have a nice 3-headed monster at the 5.

So why, pray tell, did SIU move up 5 points in NET ratings if they moved down in KenPom? And why do we pay so much attention to these numbers? What was St. Peters rated going into tournament last year?

For all the talk about bigs these past couple months, I stand by my biggest concern being guardplay. Really good, championship-level teams get consistent floor leadership from their guards, half to half and game to game. Does Southern know what it’s going to get night in and night out from Johnson, Jones, Banks, Brown?

These guys play hard … not questioning their effort, but the guardplay has to be more solid and reliable if the Valley schedule is going to go well for this team.

I have to agree.  XJ physically disappeared in the 2nd half and Jones statistically did the same.  Brown simply doesn't add enough offense and is a gritty defender but too short to be a true stopper.  Banks is a decent bench guy but isn't a good enough shooter and turns the ball over more than he assists.  And you forgot Newton on that list.  Jones is a senior and is supposed to be an All Valley player, therefore I feel he should be counted on to be a CONSISTENT scorer and shooter.   I know he ALWAYS defends at a high level, and that is huge for this team, but at this point in his career, we need more.

Lance Jones has been playing hurt since Tennessee State. He hurt his hip in that game. Last night he aggravated that injury significantly in the 1st half going after a loose ball on the sideline. He sat out a lot of the 2nd half getting treatment. He toughed it out and helped us win. Also, no way we win that game without Newton's defense. He is absolutely one of our best defenders. Added 9 critical points.

SIU fans made it a great atmosphere. The SIU chant was the loudest point of the game. I'd say we had 300-400 out of the 1700 or so there. Attendance is way down for mid majors and we are holding our own in home attendance, comparably. Still hoping attendance picks up after break though.
