Some quick thoughts; officiating was...about what we can expect I guess in a non con road game, which means bad, some of it really so. Jones was off his game and kind of out of sync. Banks is a problem. I know he plays hard, is a decent point guard, but a point guard who just can not score is a liability overall and right now Banks just can't score and had a couple of bad turnovers. Effort overall was good and D'Amico is really progressing and I hope he gets comfortable with using his complete game including looking to score more. Coupet was hot, has a good overall skill level and hope he can keep it up. I wish Verplanken would be a little more aggressive in trying to go to the basket a little more often. Our center position is going to be a problem. Defensively we aren't too bad but there isn't going to be any offense coming from there on any kind of regular basis.
Tough road loss but overall some steps forward in some areas. Have to always look at the positives and work on the issues going forward.
Rough loss.
I will say this: This team doesn’t quit. Multiple opportunities to throw in the towel on the road. Really seemed Muila is overmatched against major opponents. He needs to provide something. I really feel for the guy. I know he’s busting it. Plus, the drop off when Jones isn’t on the court is tough. I know Dalton can play. It’s just gonna take him getting that mask off. Props to Ben. He took over the game.
I feel like we need one more skill guy. Just one. Bryan needs to find a transfer this off-season. We need A GUY. I know most of you think it’s Domask or Jones, but it’s not. There has to be a basket-filler out there from a low major who can lessen the load on these guys.

Salukis have no offense from filewich or muila. I have to wonder why Ebube is redshirting.
I don’t want him to get a technical in a close game like this, but Mullins needed to be in the ears of these refs for some of these ridiculous foul calls.
8 fouls on tulsa for the whole game. garbage.
Craving a McBride Special!
Not to get too technical but we need 2-3 more really skilled players. More scorers and more rim protection. This current team plays hard but everything always seems like a uphill struggle on scoring, rebounding and defensive stops. Tulsa just had better players and real obvious today. Keep recruiting those marquee players. We needs some or this cycle is just going to repeat.
SIU is in DIRE need of getting a TRUE point guard, but one that can also shoot and keep defenses honest.
Yes, and he needs to be able to play right away. Otherwise, we will be mediocre again next year.
We are recruiting 6'3" PG Brian Moore of Northeast Oklahoma JC. He's the #8 ranked juco player in the country and is having a great year. He also has 3 years of eligibility left. He would be an ideal get, in my opinion. But I'm sure we have contingency plans there, as well.
I think our glaring need for a true Center has already been addressed. If 6'10" Scottie Ebube continues to improve and stays with his conditioning program, he can be the best big man in the MVC eventually. 6'11" Cade Hornecker also has a very high ceiling, but I wouldn't expect too much next year.
You win as a team and lose as a team. Team loss in my opinion and casual observations:
KF-hesitates every time he touches the ball and always puts on the floor if he's going to the basket.
MD-love the assists but acts like he doesn't want to shoot until the last 5 minutes of a game.
Jones-Not driving today because of foot.
D'Amico-played well but also doesn't want to shoot.
JM and D'Avanso-Have to be more aggressive on both ends.
SIU is an erratic to poor free throw shooting team and, as pointed out, struggles with layups.
We pass up many good shots for marginal to bad shots as clock runs down.
These guys ever put together a solid 40 minutes on both ends, they can make it an interesting season. Otherwise, more of this...
March on triumphantly!
Bright spots from a frustrating but winnable game: D'Amico and Coupet are both improving really nicely. With as measured as Troy is, I think he'll be the starting PG at some point soon. As for Coupet: wow, what a game.

D’Amico has a promising skillet and is already a nice playmaker on offense but I’m not sure he has the quicks to consistently defend opposing point guards.

Agree one or two more impact guys are sorely needed. Not an easy task this spring, but a necessary one if you want to cut down nets any time soon.
The margin for error is just really small with this current group … so many close games, even against so-so opposition.

There are different schools of thought on this one. Some say that due to the backlog of existing players, it makes sense to redshirt him and Wonders. Some say if they were good enough they would be playing. I tend to think it's partially both, but definitely lean towards the later. I believe the reality is, IF these guys were good enough (NOW) to be difference makers, they would be playing. I am not saying they won't be good down the road, but no one can convince me that any team would sit down a true difference maker for any reason other than health.
I will agree with most of the observations stated previously but I think some of these problems will correct themselves when this team starts playing a consistent schedule of 2 games a week not erratic schedule they have played so far

In a way, I think the best argument for playing one or both of them this year is next year, which will be a huge year for the program. Would have liked for at least Wonders (and maybe Ebube given struggles of the other bigs) to acclimate some this year so they’re more ready to be part of a championship contender next season.
Maybe it’ll work out fine in the long run. Need them both to develop into key pieces.

Things can change in Valley play but I’m not sure this team is going to have much of a chance next year, especially if Murray State is coming in. They’re 1-3 against teams equal or better than them so far and have a bad loss to Little Rock. That’s just not enough to show me they’re close to turning some kind of corner.
Now there’s plenty of time to change that but wins over SEMO & D2/NAIA teams aren’t gonna move the needle here.
Just curious if anyone else has felt this way, but Domask just doesn’t seem 100% to me. Don’t get me wrong, he is giving 100%, busting his ass out there, but just seems off so far this year. He’s passing up some wide open looks (sometimes trying to make the extra pass), air balling some open looks that he does take (very unlike him), and not really finishing well around the rim.
He may still be getting his legs under him after not playing awhile…he’s had to play a lot of minutes so far this year. Just wondering if there is something still bothering him from his previous injury.
