I truly don't believe Greg Cook thinks all this losing is OK. He enjoys being a power player in a small pond like Carbondale with his sheds, and his wife is happy to have a paid-for friend to pal around with.
My only question is does Greg Cook really care about the program? Maybe he just likes flying SIU big wigs around on his plane and sitting at halfcourt by himself. Who knows.
You know Nancy reads some of this or a portion of it gets back to her.
I think a point that a lot of people miss is that this guy basically owns a NCAA athletic department. It's not a good program in any sports apart maybe track and swimming but he got it and keeps it for a very good price with taxpayers and students on the hook to pay the O&M costs. This whole mess started with an insane raise to a coach that hadn't won with his own players using a strategy that involved fouling until the refs gave up calling them. How much of a bargain would it have been if an AD and adminstrators way back then to have said "We appreciate the input and cash support, but we need to manage our sports based upon what is best for the university."

Yes sir. It's pretty crazy how much power Greg Cook has. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to know just how much money Cook contributes on a yearly basis to keep this program the way he wants it. Uggh.
We just need someone to contribute more and demand excellence.
There are people with plenty of money, not a lot, but some. They just don't give a shit.
Cook, on the other hand, loves the power.
