OK, and if this is the wrong forum I apologize, let me start by saying I quite like the new logo and typeface.
But at the same time I don't want to see the paw print go. I think they should just update/simplify it.
Get rid of the black border, match the paw pads to the new slightly different shade of maroon, and maybe slightly adjust the spacing of the paw pads and you are good to go.
Works as is on white unis, color the pads white on maroon unis(or if you want to do a black uniform).
I hope it is something they think of, because I think it is something that would make SIU sports instantly identifiable.
Spike, the 'instantly identifiable' aspect is what the new logo is supposed to do. At least initially, all promotional monies will be put behind the new logo -- and should be. The secondary logos come at a later date. Only when the main logo is well established. The time table depends on how much money is spent on advertising the new logo. The athletic department is spending the majority of its money on other needs i.e. new coaches, upgraded facilities, etc. It's going to be a while. But for what's its worth, I like your idea.
