Hefferman at his best
Hefferman just confirmed the old board and MSN was right.
Wait a damn minute !
That was not MSN
Sorry, should have put you in that post.
total bs. Tommy is the one person that knew what needed to be done. I will not renew my tickets and will stop my monthly donation immediately.
Great call S82. The SI article said that Bell did try to get rid of Chester by raising the funds to pay the $350,000 buyout. Then other big donors came to Chester's rescue. We all know who the 'BIG DONOR' is. He had enough pull to keep Chester and get rid of Bell. I guess we all know now how deep the pool of shinola is we're standing in.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
So I see Kill is new AD effective immediately

Yeah.. I agree. We could be in major trouble.
Long time follower on saluki boards and first time poster so be gentle. Seems to me that we get a highly committed, passionate person about our university who has done nothing but turn programs around and win. We may want to take a few breaths and let things unfold. I know a bit about Coach and know that he is his own man and will make decisions that lead to what's in the best interest of the kid, the team, and the university. Being strong in athletics does help recruitment of students and I think Jerry will be a tremendous ambassador for the school. Looking forward for the first time in awhile myself. Good Luck Coach.

I hope you are correct. If Kill is his own man, I suspect that in the long run that he will tire of the antics.

The last word is the most pertinent..."Coach". These type of hires usually do not work out. I know Kill will bust his backside on the job, but I'm not sure that a coach is something we need at this point in time. It's unlikely but I would like to have Paul Kowalczyk back.
Tried to post a response and seemed to lose it so hopefully this is not a repeat folks. I agree university antics could run almost anyone off, but Coach Kill may be the one guy who is best situated to deal with the athletic system as a whole (boosters, influential donors, fans, administration, coaches, etc.). Jerry is about building trust and getting everyone pulling in the right direction. Lord knows the university could sure use some of that at this point. I for one am on board and excited about the possibilities for the first time in a long time. Irrespective of Barry's relationship with coach he will have to perform and improve and get results or he will not be there. Jerry is about winning.
Respectfully disagree 69. Just cause one has been a coach does not mean they don't have skill set to be AD. Plenty of examples out there of coaches who moved from coach position and then became great AD's. Alvarez comes to mind at Wisconsin I believe. Guess we will see.
Well barkeep was right, the SIU athletics department continues to spin out of control, and we get a "turn the corner" reference from BH. Just another great day in Carbondale. 🙄
I am so pumped for basketball season to start!

I am going to clarify a bit. I don't think Hinson's antics would cause Kill to leave. I think Hinson's antics might, however, cause Kill to get the go ahead from Cook to fire Hinson. That leaves the problem as this - what if Cook still says no? I don't think Greg Cook anticipated his name being out there as much as it has been. Who knows, there's still the off chance that the public pressure could finally flip him to the point that he finally says "enough" of Hucky.
I certainly see the merit of having a former coach as athletic director over a businessman like the last three AD's were. That said, one of the businessmen (PK AD) was very successful. The other two, not so much. I do think that in a different situation that Bell would have got another year to be able to institute his plan. To be judged in a three-year time frame as an AD is harsh, IMO. Usually, I wait until 4-5 years down the road to make a correct judgment. This can certainly be argued as a non-normal situation. Tommy Bell barely got the chance to make his own hires. If you wanted to make the argument that the volleyball hire was bad, that's certainly valid. Kathleen Raske was a good hire. Nick Hill was certainly a good hire.
Otherwise, the department has a lot of carry over from Mario and that's interesting when Bell was brought in to create change after the departure of Mario to New Mexico State.
anyone remember when Kill sued the university? what was the resolution?
Craving a McBride Special!

I can respect that and that's why I qualified that with "usually". I really hope it works out well. No one called to ask my opinion anyway, but maybe I will hit the Powerball soon so they do start asking for my opinion! 😉
