I am all for Chris Lowery getting a shot somewhere else. It just can’t happen here.
If it doesn't happen at SIU, I'm not sure if Saluki basketball ever returns to it's glory days. This program needs him to return to relevance.

I see you cruised right over the 8-23 reference.

Oh god, please don't start with the meatball! We all know that DePaul blew their chance at a return to prominence when they took a pass on him several years ago, but don't stir up Mrs. Lowery again.
Phil Gilbert is a Montemagno guy. Which really means he’s a Cook guy. Sounds to me like he wants Dunn out.
The one guy who set some expectations was out of a job a couple weeks later.....and the guy who saved barry’s bacon took over.
Not sure that red flag could get any bigger.
Bluster and barbeque don't win championships.

I agree. Based on the article, Gilbert leads you to believe the dysfunction starts at the very top. It's not hard to believe. I can't say that SIU has made any impactful strides since Dunn's hire. The focus on attracting students and retaining students has been in place since the start of his tenure and the bleeding continues. If he doesn't have a vision and can't provide clear direction, he needs to go. Seems to me Dunn is in way over his head.

Dunn is far less bad than the completely toxic chancellor who wants to dismantle pretty much all the academic units at SIU. Not to mention the relative hiring, the issues with his lab in Alberta, and the absolute lack of transparency.

I sent a message to Dunn. He thanked me for my comments but then said the chancellors at the two campuses make their own decisions. So why do we need a president then?
Here’s my plan.
Get the bigger problem out first. Dunn can be debated later. He clearly isn’t the biggest issue here.
The real issue is the BOT micromanaging SIU by hiring Montemagno. That has to be fixed by the next governor.
Personally, I want Pritzker to sack the entire board if he wins. The whole lot needs changed out IMO.

I keep hoping for some good news on this site (which is well done by the way) but it seems like the slide into mediocrity continues. I wonder what has to happen to see some positive changes in the university I care about?
WOOF!
I would love to get on here and post good news. Seriously!
Unfortunately it’s like peeling layers off of an onion at this point. SIU needs a major culture change.
my suspicion is that this has a strong bearing on why Tommy is no longer part of SIU-
(but changeover in football and attempting changeover in basketball could right the ship.)

I was critical of Bell with that deficit. Now let’s be honest. That probably isn’t it. I wish it were. If it was, then why did Montemagno authorize the Hinson firing in the first place only to undercut Bell later? That put Bell in an untenable position.
If Kill was being brought in to massive, sweeping changes, I’d be for the hiring. Reading the tea leaves, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

My guess there is no 1 thing that can be placed on why line, Unless it was “University Politics”
The feeling I got was early in the season Hinson was gone, dead fish.
Then he got a foothold on some winning and strung out a #2 valley regular season finish. My guess is something changed but plans were already in action.
