SIU 75
Valpo 69
Final
Whew - we recovered from our Ohio Dominican first half and won one we were supposed to.
XJ with 25 in the 2nd - 27 total. Brown with 14, DAmico with 13.
At Murray St. Saturday at 1 PM. Won't be easy and can't afford a first half like tonight.
Glad we won.
Sad to say this, but Valpo is our peer. Especially with our vaunted small lineup.

I just don't understand why Scottie doesn't get more minutes. Except for the last few minutes of a close game, at the minimum he should always come in when Clarence goes out.

He doesn’t trust him to guard mobile bigs who are threats from 3. That’s the (unpopular) reason.
Scottie was in there for a bit when Clarence was in foul trouble. We went on a little run but dude had his hands on his hips sucking wind after about 2.5 minutes of play. He had to guard on the perimeter and Valpo was definitely pushing tempo which likely contributed to this, but that's a big reason why he doesn't get long stretches...he just doesn't have the stamina for 5-6 minute straight, especially with teams that run.
So Scotty is out of shape… can’t play perimeter defense… that is a coaching problem if those statements are true which probably are. I haven’t seen Hensley execute a basic post move, Trent actually did an up and under last night, maybe Trent should coach the bigs. My point here is, the staff has no idea how to manage bigs, coach or develop. Hensley isn’t a five either. There is a media timeout every four minutes and it truly baffles me how anyone could be that tired, if there are stamina problems there must be coaching problems there. Not rocket science. Wasn’t impressed with anything I saw last night except the other two games.
Just seems like Shaq should have went out for golf or something, he would not be able to play against Valpo apparently. Nevermind imposing will on another team, just play their game ok. And if the staff keeps recruiting (and/or failing to develop) big guys that cannot even play against the worst teams in the conference, well the answer seems clear to me. I am sure to perplex me even more, if they could have played JD Mulia all 40 last night they would have.

And the kicker is Hensley is exactly the kind of mobile big they seem to favor, but he is having major trouble keeping his man in front of him and with defensive awareness in general, hence his minutes are also going down. Seems like Rupert is the only one of the three bigs in somewhat good standing at the moment.
Glad we won.

lol... No, no they are not...

"Everything is a coaching problem" is a thing people say when they don't understand anything.
RJ McGee playing more minutes than Hensley was not something I expected:
Yes, that would have paid off nicely as a prop bet. But good for McGee ... he has to be quite disappointed with how the season has gone. He did grab a couple boards in his few minutes out there. It'll be interesting to see when the next time he or Sharp hit the floor will be. I'd say McGee could be the beneficiary of Stulic falling out of the rotation, but with Brown playing 38 minutes at the 2 and Ferguson/Davis splitting the 3, it's still an uphill battle for minutes.
