May not mean anything, but his dog's name is Wrigley.

Saw this on the mlb.com website today

In a related move, the Cubs traded left-hander Drew Smyly, who hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2016 because of Tommy John elbow surgery and is due to be paid $7 million next year, to the Rangers. The Cubs are also sending a player to be named later in exchange for a player to be named later.

So can a player to be named later be traded for himself?  😆

Actually a player can be traded for himself! Happened 4 times in MLB history!

Only the Cubs would trade Dick Noles to the Tigers and only to ask for him back after the season.

We will have to see what happens to Russell.  I don't want him on the team.

What are you trading Happ for?  He is an athletic young switch hitter with power from the left side.

Yes, sign Chavez.

I'd have to look into his stats more but yes on Pen help.

I think you are going to be disappointed.

Russell's not been good enough that his play on the field would be enough to overcome his problems off it.  Cubs won't take the PR hit to bring him back.  They could get something for him but not the return they would've got at this time last year.  He'll play again, just not here.

Happ's the swiss army knife multi-position guy that Maddon loves.  While he regressed at the plate this year, he deserves another shot assuming it wasn't Chili Davis' teaching that screwed him up.

Agree on Chavez.  Low risk move.

Signing Harper would be like winning Powerball...its great if it happens but the chances are slim.  Teams like StL, Philly, or SF will go hard after him.  His chances of winning a World Series are better with the Cubs in the short term but he wouldn't be "the guy" like he would if he signs with any of those other teams.

I don't want Machado either.  Give Javy the everyday SS and be done.

I hate the financial strain Darvish and Chatwood put on the Cubs because of injuries and just being flat out bad..

No matter where Harper goes, he's always going to be deemed "The Guy". At least with the Cubs he would be just "One of the Guys" where the emphasis will still be on Bryant/Rizzo/Baez. After all that's why Heyward signed with the Cubs.

Jim Hickey resigned as Cubs pitching coach yesterday.  They'll be looking for their 3rd pitching coach in as many years.  Hickey left because of personal reasons.

Cubs qualified Russell on Friday with a contract but that still doesn't mean that he'll suit up.  It'll be interesting to see how they navigate this minefield.  Best case is they find some value for him on the trade market.

Cards get Goldschimdt.  Not excited to see this guy 10 times a year at Wrigley (I'm sure the Cubs pitchers aren't either) but if the Cubs lineup hits like its supposed to, it shouldn't matter who the opposition puts out there.

Goldy is real good.

I think the key is if KB is healthy.  If he is healthy that fixes a lot of the O.

Wilson needs to rebound to help make up for Baez.  I think Baez will regress slightly.

Add a healthy Yu and the Cubs still have the most talented roster in NLC.

BREAKING....Morrow had a scope on his elbow early Nov.  Feb 6 is target date to start throwing, he won't start year with cubs.  So ya, more pen help!

Division's going to be real tough this year.  Even Cincy won't be the pushover they've been.  The Cubs rotation is probably the best of the NLC if they can all stay healthy and that will be the difference in the division race.
