Hope Baez is nothing to serious.
Looked OK coming off the bench late. Made a nice play at 3B.
So Cubs have made up 2 of the 3 games from the brutal series in STL. Last night was a nice win with Tseng starting. Would be nice to get the sweep today.
Baez back in the lineup today, so it must not be much to worry about.
It's May 9 and the Cubs are 1.5 games back after the recent 5 games losing streak. I think the sky is falling talk might have been premature!
This team is fine. They just need multiple guys to get hot at the same time.

As it was last year when the came out slow and then got hot in the 2nd half and rode that all the way to the NLCS. No need to panic.
Rumors in the Chicago press about the Cubs going after Manny Machado and offering Addison Russell to the O's in the deal. While I would love to see Machado in Cubs blue, would he just be a rental or would the Cubs go for the long term deal when he becomes a free agent this winter? Depends how deep the Ricketts pockets are. The Bryce Harper whispers have been floating since last year so how serious are those? Bryant's Arb eligible for the next 3 years so that price is going to go up and up. Hendricks too. Cubs can win with the lineup they have now and Machado will go somewhere before the deadline. Just hope it isn't to somebody else in the division.

Theo said last week they are not going to pay a premium for a rental, for what it’s worth.

Good. The Cubs really don't have a glaring need this year like they did when they went after Chapman so overpaying for a rental now starts to damage the longer term depth of the organization. They have already parted with some pretty valuable prospects in Jiminez and Torres.
I would of been all for this trade if we still had Gleybar Torres in our farm system. Machado is the type of rental player you bring in if you feel comfortable with your backup plan taking over the following season. Javy is just better at 2B, and they still don't have a back up SS other then Mike Freeman in the minors (Who we all know can't hit a slow pitch softball)

I'd love to see Machado here but do the Cubs even have enough in the minors to get the Orioles interested? Russell is still young but I'm guessing the Os would ask for more.
Cubs don't. Asides from Russell, the Cubs would need them to take Heyward's contract and give up Alzhoey, Tseng, and either Caratini/Zagunis/Bote.

Cubs easily have enough to get Machado for a half year if they include Russell.
To me this is all dependent on if the FO wants and thinks they can re-sign him. Trading Russell opens up a hole on the IF after this year if they don't. Sure Baez can slide to SS but that means Zobrist/Happ at 2B??? no thanks.
Keep in mind the club has a pretty good idea internally of what the new TV deal/network is going to bring in revenue wise. They might be completely willing to blow by the luxury tax for a 3-5 year window.

Zo is what...37 now? As you say...not the long term solution. Happ would be OK if he could hit consistently. Nowhere near the range of Baez (but who does) but would be a decent replacement if there's nobody better in the system.

I don't like Happ at 2B but that's just me, maybe I am just spoiled by having Baez there.
Maybe if he was full time there he would improve, JMO.
Cubs Farm system isn't as strong as it used to be a few years ago. Most of the Cubs top 10 prospects are pitchers or outfielders.
They do have Aramis Ademan, but he's 19 and playing Single-A ball. It's going to be a while until we see/hear of him.
